    I would guess someone at Disney decided the market of fans is too small for a profitable wide release.

    I did a Google search. Those ones you saw on eBay were officially released by the Disney Movie Club, according to this site:

    Or not...

    The "Zorro" DVDs at Disney Movie Club have only a handful of episodes per disc at $21.95 a pop. There are five DVDs of the first season, or you can purchase the entire first season for $59.99.

    No reason you should pay that much though. Join Disney Movie Club and make the first few "Zorro" DVDs your introductory purchase. Pick up the others over the next few months at retail, but choose others that are discounted when you buy one at regular price.

    You'll come out ahead in the end and have the Disney DVDs you want!

    Re: Zorro - DVD

    It's so unfair how Disney is treating this series on DVD.

    Hey, Disney (I know you guys read this site):

    COLORIZED = BAD

    BAREBONES RELEASE OF TV SERIES = BAD

    HEAVILY LIMITED RELEASE OF ZORRO TV SERIES ON DVD = VERY BAD

    This series deserves the kind of loving treatment that so many other classic TV series have been given, with season releases and so forth. Given that the Zorro series only last two seasons (1957-59) and was followed by 4 hour-long episodes on the anthology series (Walt Disney Presents, as it was called in 1960-61), it shouldn't be too difficult for them to produce a decent release. Part of the reason Zorro has been such a popular iconic figure is due to the Disney TV series and its wide exposure.

    I think Disney is terribly mistaken for continuing to sit on this property. I think it has great potential to be a marketing success, if only they'll invest properly in it. Not many Disney TV productions from the 1950s exist on DVD, let alone whole series, and this would be a perfect choice for Disney to step into the TV-on-DVD market.

    I've been intrigued with this thread, so I just found this page, www.zorro.com. Their "About Us" page claims they control "the worldwide trademarks and copyrights in the name, visual likeness and the character of Zorro." So if Disney owns the series, do they still need to negotiate paying a fee to these guys?

    I can't say for certain, but that's probably correct.

    Re: Zorro - DVD

    For those interested in the Disney Zorro TV series, there was a book published a few years back called The Zorro Television Companion: A Critical Appreciation. It's a bit on the pricey end, but I would think it's a must-have for die-hard fans of the series.
