Animal Kingdom to participate in breeding program of threatened rodents

Looks like Mickey is stepping up to help some of his fellow rodent friends. Disney's Animal Kingdom under a program run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will start a captive breeding program for the Key Largo Woodrat, who's currently being threatened by over development, pythons, and cats in the Flordia Keys.

While the Woodrats will not be on public display, Disney has planned a section of the Rafiki's Planet Watch Tour to be dedicated to them, This area will include a bank of computers to educate the public about the plight of the Woodrats, some video monitors with live feeds of them, and program staff to answer questions that anyone might have about them.

Currently Disney is reporting that they have 27 Woodrats, and 15 pups. This is a very sigificant number considering that there are only approx 200 Woodrats left in the wild.

Good for DAK. I can only assume there is no SSP program for critters
