Well, great, now I need a Blu-Ray DVD PLayer...

I just looked up Enchanted's DVD bonus features, and the one feature I wanted to see the most is only available on Blu-Ray.

Now, granted that the HD Wars are over and Blu-Ray did win, I still find it rather upsetting that this bonus feature is a Blu-Ray exclusive.

    Oh well, c'est la vie.

Anyone else come across something like this before with any other DVDs you've had your eye on?

    Maybe?
The Blu-ray Disc contains all of the above, plus:
    • THE D-FILES - Enchanted is loaded with witty hidden references to classic Disney films. The D-Files” rewards players who spot them with a short featurette showing the original Disney reference. High scoring players are treated to three extra special videos: “So Close,” “Making Ever Ever After” and “True Love’s Kiss.”

    ^ Sounds cool.

And I think this is going to be the way of things. DVD didn't start taking off until they really started getting more special features. Most people didn't see the point at first.

I can see the same things happening with Blu-Ray now that it's won the next-gen war. There will still be special features on DVD's to be sure, but there will be additional special features on the Blu-Ray discs that won't be on the regular DVD (as is seen with Enchanted).

This sounds like a feature that relies on specific Blu-ray technology, and could not be on the DVD even if they wanted it to be. Not unlike the extras on the Pirates Blu-rays.

Well, I'm sure they could find an alternate method if they really wanted to...by just presenting the material on a subtitle track or something, but I really don't expect it.

Well, you only "need" the BluRay player if you want to see the extra features. You can buy the BR DVD (which I highly recommend if you want it, as Disney has a habit of vaulting some of the better movies for years at a time), then wait for the player prices to come down a little more, and for newer versions of the players to come on the market.

Also, make sure the Blu-Ray player you buy is compatible with the feature you are looking for. Most of the players on the market right now (before 11/07), won’t access features coming out on Profile 1.1 discs, including picture in picture. As of right now, the safest bet on a Blu-Ray player is the PS3, since it will be upgradeable through Profile 2.0.

I was expecting it to be more like a menu where you are given the titles of all the Disney films they referanced by the order/scene the appeared in, and you would either get a side-by-side comparison or the director supplying commentary for the duration of the scene explaining what the referance was.

Bluray is the way to go for sure. Its going to be standard in a few years so might as well start collecting Disney Bluray titles you want now so you dont get too far behind by time you get a player.

I figure Start getting the bluray disks now. Even if you dont buy a player now you will at some point and when that is you will have an awesome collection of movies to start with straight away.

I'm from the school of thought that is all "Why buy something you can't use/watch?" when it comes to entertainment.

I read a bit about Blu Ray and from what I read, Blu Ray will play on normal DVD players - well the newer ones - I just bought a DVD recorder and it plays the Blu Ray - I'm not thrilled with the change - with the HD TV's and cable/Direct TV - you will need 3-4 different receivers/players/compnents just to get the channels you want to see, to watch the DVD's you want to watch and to get Satellite

It's getting all too complicated and too expensive

We just bought a Blu ray player and watched our first Blu ray movie (Die Hard-1).
Unreal! The quality was amazing! Makes regular Tv(we dont have the HD receiver for our satellite) looks fuzzy in comparison,
