Re: 2008 Disney Annual Stockholder Meeting Comments

As to the butt-kissing? This is one shareholder that lacks that ability.......unless we are talking about an Admiral or Captain or someone esle who can ruin careers with just a word....I have no wish to be assigned IA orders or sent to Diego Carcia.

I will eventually go to a meeting and ask the hard questions.

When I heard the praise for the "27 months of over 2.25 million prizes", first off, it was "What the ....", and then I thought it could have been a plant placed in the audience by Jay Rasulo.

They must have passed out happy weed to the attendies. Thats the only explanation I have for the praise of YOMD. That or it was some buttkissing for Rasulo. Sheesh some people are so bad I am surprised thier lips are not brown.

Well, no news coming out of this meeting, so I have nothing to write about.

I will let Chuck O. write his story, he actually went to Albuquerque. My guess, he will spend more time on other things than the actual meeting.

Blah. They just do this because they have to. I really hope that next year, they hold the meeting at WDW.

    Executives <> Board Members.
Executives (Bob Iger, Staggs, etc.) get paid big money to run company and operations, and could work elsewhere if they could get paid more.
Board Members do not get paid as much, though their financial interests lie mainly in the shares of stock (lots of it, not 15 shares) and keeping the price up.

Meh. This is not the same audience as the Philadelphia one a few years ago. Since there is "documented evidence" (Al) that plants have been used in other types meetings, I don't think it's too far-fetched to think that it happened here as well.

Having gone to the meeting, I can confirm that John Lasseter was not there. The only big thing that was done was a new trailer for Wall-E was shown. Beyond that, not much more I could add than what Darbeer has already posted.

Yeeeesh! so sad that Disney had to plant someone to
praise the 2nd year of a million dreams. what suck up.

Iger's had too much "practice" on the "Song of the South"
question, just straight corporate lingo. I liked it much
better a couple years ago when he was much more straight-
forward in answering questions. Iger seems too far removed
by giving these type of answers. I'm not very optimistic
about their movie releases this years, as in the past few years,
and with the economy tanking, it doesn't look too good for
theme park attendance either. My guess is Iger isn't going to
be getting anywhere near a 27 million bonus next year.

Yes it has been considered. Perhaps just not just when he was around.

I would be so happy if they created a global or at least national annual pass.

Because most of them have worked their ***** off to get to those positions. I say good for them.

If it means those yokels are planning trips to DL or WDW because of YOMD advertising, why is this a bad thing? I've never understood all the YOMD bashing. Come on guys, it's just a marketing campaign that keeps the Disney name in front of the public. It's not life or death.

What exactly did you expect? Shareholder meetings are about showing off what the company does to attract new shareholders and keep the current ones happy.

I don't think it is either, but I doubt Disney is the only company that's ever done it.

The entire stock market has been struggling because of bad economic news and recession fears. Disney and other leisure/entertainment-based companies are considered vulnerable in sluggish economies. People don't plan Disney vacations, go to the movies or buy DVD's when they can't make their house payments.
