    New DVD intro question.

I am not sure if this question has already been answered, but here goes nothing.
The recent Disney DVD releases include a neat intro, which includes clips of several Disney films. Does anyone know where I may find the tune that plays during the intro?

It sounds a lot like Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.

^It is. It's "Overture" from the Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves soundtrack, composed by Michael Kamen, one of my fave themes. It gave me a chuckle to hear it, that Disney is using (great) themes from non-Disney films for marketing - They use the theme music from Universal Picture's "Peter Pan" for the Year of a Million Dreams commercials.

I said the exact same thing to my girlfriend when I first saw the new opening sequence. "That's from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, the Kevin Costner movie. That's not Disney, I wonder if they bought the rights to the tune?"
    "Fire at will, boys!"

    "Which one's Will?

I'm pretty sure that's the only way they could attach it to so many promos! Too bad Michael Kamen isn't alive still.

But you guys are right... it's NOT Disney... although the spirit of the music embodies it pretty good.

They could easily use Dinosaur's brilliant score by James Newton Howard though. That opening track was awesome... but probably not "fanfare" enough.

    Not unusual in the industry.

The music from Jack's flight in The Nightmare Before Christmas was used in an Animal Planet show at Universal Studios Florida. (Well, not too big of a stretch, in a way -- Disney does own a big portion of Discovery Networks stock.)

Nightmare Before Christmas music was also used in the original Casper trailers.

Ok, so, trailers are probably the guiltiest of all with using music from other movies!

    Recent ones in memory...

Treasure Planet using John Williams' Far and Away.

    Mulan using Randy Edelman's Dragonheart.

Music by Danny Elfman, especially from Beetlejuice, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and the Batman movies, are VERY popular choices for trailers and commercials.

A lot of music from film scores get rotated into music catalogs that you can buy for commercial use. Most of it goes unnoticed as most films don't have a memorable score, but it's a good way for the publisher to whore around it's catalog and get additional royalties.

Notice that the bouncy music from Terry Gilliam's Brazil has been used as the trailer music for both Bee Movie and Wall*E (among others). Danny Eflman's music is used in a lot of trailers as already noted.

The music from Dragonheart, I've noticed, makes its way into an Academy Awards montage every single year. Wonderful music.

I kind of wonder if the music in the Disney intro should have been actual Disney music, but it's hard to not like such a great piece of music playing that part.
