Re: Remakes/Sequels that SHOULD NOT Happen

Remakes are going to happen. Just like covers of songs, movies will be remade. Doesn't mean you have to like them, doesn't mean you have to see them, and it doesn't take away from the original in my opinion.

I remember when I saw Halloween 2, I thought there's no way this could be as good as the first. Well, I was wrong, it was AS good as the first. The second Indiana Jones sucked, but the third one was as good as the first. Because it was just different enough to set it apart.

    How about Prequels?

I still shudder at Star Wars A Phantom Menace.

Re: Remakes/Sequels that SHOULD NOT Happen

Sequels vs remakes are apples vs oranges.

My opinion on sequels: I enjoy the good sequels and hope my radar (or my friends' good judgment) help avoid the bad ones. And for the record, I enjoyed "Back to the Future Part III" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" more than their Part II installments.

I don't think we gained anything with the latest "King Kong" remake by Peter Jackson. Even Fay Wray came out sexier than Naomi Watts, and I didn't think that was possible! Tom Cruise's "War of the Worlds" also disappointed me, but I enjoyed "I Am Legend."

If we include TV shows remade into films, I never saw "Starsky and Hutch," "The Avengers," nor "The Wild Wild West." But I did see "The Nude Bomb" back in the day. Avoiding 3 out of 4 bombs ain't too bad a record.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory w/ Johnny Depp should have never happened.

Nobody can replace Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.

Gene Wilder IS Willy Wonka, and that movie will always be the real Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp's version was so different, that it was like another movie altogether.

Re: Remakes/Sequels that SHOULD NOT Happen

    Please don't remake:

Darby O'Gill and the Little People
The Exorcist (too late for the sequels)
    The Crawling Eye
    Grapes of Wrath
    The Bishop's Wife (too late)
    War of the Gargantuans
    Sound of Music
    North by Northwest
    Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
    Mary Poppins
    Duel
    The Other (1972)
    2001 A Space Odyssey
    To Kill A Mockingbird
    Cannonball Run
    Ferris Bueller's Day Off
    Roller Boogie
Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama
    Fright Night
    Hollywood Hot Tubs
Chairman of the Board (with Carrot Top)
    The Incredible Melting Man

    ...Ad nauseam

aw hell, don't remake ANYTHING! Come up with something new
Far from the frenzy of the frantic world above.

Re: Remakes/Sequels that SHOULD NOT Happen

Personally, I believe squels are either worse or better than the firsts. I LOVE POTC2 compared to POTC 1 & 3. I also LOVE Spider Man 2 compared to SM 1 & 3.

So, not all sequels are bad.

But then again there are remakes of Underdog and Alvin in The Chipmunks. I did not see them, but just looking at how horrible these characters are in 3D gives me good enough reason not to waste my money on the films. I don't know, I guess it's because I grew up with Underdog and the Chipmunks looking like simple drawings rather than extremely realistic objects. Some cartoon characters are just not designed to be in 3D Form. The Chipmunks and Underdog are some of those characters.

I am glad they remade The Producers and Hairspray into musicals.

I agree 100% on both these! I LOVE POTC2 much more than 1 or 3.

The Producers was not a remake. The 2005 film is a film based on a musical based on a film.
