    Remakes/Sequels that SHOULD NOT Happen

This stems from a thread from another MC'er........about remakes and sequels that could happen.

I am a staunch believer that you 'don't mess with classics'.

Are there any movies that YOU think should never be touched - should not be remade or a sequel tacked on to it???

I personally think the first Pirates of the Caribbean flick could have stood alone.......didn't need to sequels at all. As well - Back to the Future could have done with just ONE movie.........

How about you? What are your thoughts???

I don't think Grease should be remade! I've never seen the sequels to Grease.... But I'm sure it would have been fine standing alone.

Never! Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable can NEVER be replaced. Joanne Whalley did a sequel to GWTW called Scarlett.........and it wasn't bad, but it WASN'T Vivien Leigh AT ALL. That's why people are cast for certain characters - because they embody a certain 'something' needed for the character.

The sequel, Scarlett, was extremely bland in comparison.

Every movie that has had a remake/sequel should have NEVER happened!!! Oh, and all those spoof films (like the upcoming "Superhero" movie) too.

I personally don't think the modern way they make movies would even fit in with GWTW......it just wouldn't seem right

Those of us who have seen Greese 2 try to block it from memory and pretend Grease does stand alone.

I think Grease 2 was a mistake - but I do think Toy Story 2 was a good idea.

I enjoyed the book Scarlett, HOWEVER i just wanted to let you know it is not supported by the Mitchell family. If you want the true ending, although i reccomend not, read Rhett Butler's People.

As for the movie, if you've read the book, it's AWEFUL. The boo is NOT bland, it's rather enjoyable actually, and Timothy Dalton did a good job...but no one will replace rhett in my mind....

now if hugh jackman took a turn at it, HE might make a good Rhett. The man must exued MANness, lol

ANYWAY, out of my la la land.

I hope they never remake Pride and Prejudice AGAIN. I think we have more then anough of THAT. all together they are perfect. now for what TO remake, the shining....OOOooooOOOOOooooo

agreed. Nothing beats reality when it comes to movie, and they wouldn't burn down movies set now for the sacking of Atlanta, not in a million years.

    You are correct sir!

Let me expand my view by saying that I feel when remakes/sequels happen it looks like originality is gone from that point on. They are just trying to cash in on something that was popular the first time and not come up with new ideas. Remakes are the worst culprits!

Re: Remakes/Sequels that SHOULD NOT Happen

I loved loved loved POTC. In 2003, we were ALL OVER that movie.....we even had a "Pirate Party" for my 32nd Birthday in 2003 - I went to Disneyland an in Pieces of 8 in NOS, I got a couple bags of those plastic 'jewels' and they were part of our birthday and cake decor for my big 32.

But it seemed like with the 2nd and 3rd movies, I lost interest - most of my family did - like they were 'milking' the movie, and I was 'anti' pirate.....

My point being, the sequels just didn't do it for us........I think the first POTC movie could have and SHOULD have stood alone.

I agree with you on PotC movies. The first one was amazing, and I can still watch it over and over. But the 2 sequels - bleh.

The last Pride and Prejudice should be the last Pride and Prejudice. In fact, they could have not made that one at all.

I actually liked the second Back to the Future, and Toy Story II. The second Indiana Jones was great as was Godfather II.

Major League was funny. Major League 2 lousy. Jaws good. Jaws 3D really bad. The Sting, excellent. The Stink II a clinker. Saturday Night Fever, a classic. Stayin' Alive, so bad!

Worst remakes ever: The Pink Panther and The Out of Towners both with Steve Martin.
