Post What would get you back into the movie theater today?

With the rising prices of gas and movie tickets, movie theater management will have to provide some special incentives to encourage attendance. Most of these were used in the 1950s. Which would most likely command your attention and attendance?

Cheaper tickets. We used to have one night a week where it was discount night. I think it used to be $2 Tuesdays or something, and that was great. I'd be okay with just an even bigger discount for the matinee so that you actually felt like you were getting a bargain. Our local theater chain does have a rewards program, so every so often you win a free snack/beverage, or ticket, or something, so that's a cool little bonus.

The only thing that will get me back is cheaper tickets. I would be willing to wait a few weeks to see the movie at a cheaper price. I never go to opening day/weekend of a movie - it isn't important to me to be one of the first to see a movie. "Older" movie at a cheaper price.

It's funny, I went to the midnight showing on Indy and it was only $6.50.

    $6.50? It's like $11 in Southern California.

I don't go to the movies often. What gets me there is a movie I want to see.

Usually tickets are about $10.50 but they discounted them for the event.

    Beer.

I use my Entertainment Coupon Book to get into the $10.50 shows for $6 for new releases.

When a movie's been out for a bit, I see it at a pub theater for $3 and another $4 buys me a pint of good brew.

Also, good movies with sharp writing get me in the door, no matter the cost. I don't want fattening cheap food or crappy comics or other junk. Give me a good movie and I'll go to the theater.

    Quality movie theatres.

We have theatre that is owned by a chain, and it sucks badly. No armrests because they were all stolen, ridiculous prices for ridiculous sizes for snacks and the people there don't care about disruptions, i.e. annoying people.

One town over there is a better theatre that is privately owned with fair prices, friendly staff who actually enjoy their job, huge portions of popcorn, and they even have a punch card. 5 movies and the 6th ones free. Movies there are 5 bucks and its like any other theatre new releases and everything. They even have retro night.
I got to see Ferris Bueller on the big screen, it was awesome.

    Just a great theatre.

We always go to Matinee's or the $5 twilight shows anyway. Very rarely do we pay full price for a movie.

Matinees here are still like $8 or $9, depending on the theater.

For $5, I'd go all the time. Luckily we do have a little theater that shows older movies for $1.50. I'm a first day though. I called in sick to go see the first Harry Potter movie at 9 am, as I was driving to the theater. I don't get to be irresponsible nearly enough these days!

I just love going to the cinema, so for me it is good movies.

Shorts (yes, plural) would be a great way to get me into a theater.

Re: What would get you back into the movie theater today?

Cheaper tickets all around. The theatre I usually go to is pretty nice so no gripes about that. If I do go see a movie it's a "early bird" showing meaning the first showing of a movie during a weekday is only $7.50, which actually sucks as the last time I was actually able to make it to one of them it was $6.50.
