    'Spider-Man 4' May 2011

    'SPIDER-MAN 4' aiming for May 2011 release

Peter Parker is swinging back into the muliplex—but not for a while.

Spider-Man” producer Laura Ziskin said the fourth installment in the web-slinging superhero series is tentatively scheduled to arrive in May 2011.

In remarks Thursday to theater owners from California and Nevada, Ziskin said there was no finished screenplay, but that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful “Spider-Man 4” could be ready in three years’ time.

The first three movies comprise one of the most successful franchises in modern Hollywood history, grossing a combined $2.5 billion worldwide. Neither star Tobey Maguire nor director Sam Raimi is yet committed to work on the next installment. But Sony has paid Marvel to renew its rights.

Before she tackles the next “Spider-Man,” Ziskin is producing a one-hour fundraiser for cancer research that will be shown commercial-free on ABC, NBC and CBS on Sept. 5.

Ziskin, a cancer survivor, showed the several hundred exhibitors a new theatrical public service announcement directed by David Fincher (“Fight Club”) that promotes Ziskin’s cancer cause, Stand Up to Cancer.

Ugh. You'd think that the terrible 3rd one would have prevented this.

I wonder how many actors of the original cast will come back for the fourth.

It's the new Batman films that are without quality and soul. Spidey 3: The Musical was a charming and disarming change of pace. Teaming up with the Goblin (who put aside his differences with Parker) against Venom and Sandman was both exciting and moving. The special effects are super as well.

The new Batman movies are effects laden - and a captivating bat-treat to that end. The stories themselves are thin, and the new Batman's personality is cardboard. I look forward to the Hulk remake. However, we can't expect much of the characters in that film either in terms of them being multi-demensional - if this film is anything kike it's predecesor.

The Spiderman films have each bveen completely different than the others in terms of tone. The only thing consistant is the complex personalities of the characters - courage, strength, humor, weaknesses, flaws. Expect Spidey 4 to have a cutting edge dramatic feel to it. I very much look forward to it!

The first two were good, and the third one was terrible. I would be happy with the same creative team coming back. No reason they can't do a good job this time.

I'd also be happy with a new team to reinvigorate the franchise, the same way Batman Begins did a masterful job rekindling that franchise (of course, the Batman franchise was in way worse shape than Spidey is).

At least Spidey didn't end-up with rubber nipples in Spiderman 3.

    Re: 'Spider-Man 4' May 2011

Spidey 3 suffered from the same problem that brought down Tim Burton's Batman franchise (Joel Shumacher not withstanding) the producers feeling the need to have three marginal villains rather than one good one.

I thought the whole "The Sandman was the real killer of your uncle" slant of Spidey 3 really hurt the film. The better story in Spidey was the dark side of Peter Parker (sans the Hitler haircut) and his battle with Topher Grace's character and ultimately Venom.

They should have held off the Parker/Spidey Goblin reveal, and made that the focus of it's own film, not just another loose thread in Spidey 3.

Spidey didn't have to worry about nipples. Kirsten handled that department. Perhaps the new creative team for the coming flick will make it a point to give them both rubber nips and silicone enhanced BBS.

Is it too early to have a reboot of the series like they did with Batman Begins?

    I'd be all for that.

They rebooted the Incredible Hulk two, Tui. Lots of guys on this board would be happy if they rebootied Kirsten Dunst with the booty of another actress - our old friend Soulquarian for one. He doesn't like her eggs at all.
