Tree Branch falls near people at Disneyland - Orange County Register, 6/26/08

    http://ocresort.freedomblogging.com/...at-disneyland/

A tree branch broke and fell onto a pathway this afternoon near the French Market restaurant in the New Orleans Square area of Disneyland.

A Disney spokeswoman said it was one branch and that it did not fall on anybody. She said that no more than five people were near the branch when it fell. She said those people had minor scrapes.

I find it interesting that, officially, it fell on no one but a few people were seen being pulled from underneath.

I guess the lure of getting underneath a recently fallen limb is irresistible to some...

Is it that slow of a news day that the register has to cover a falling tree branch? I saw one, a 10 foot branch, blocking a lane on the road on my way home. Can I report that?

I love how in the article it goes from just a tree branch to saying a tree fell on people.

The tree was obviously distressed about the prices on the French Market's new menu . . .

They were done cleaning up the area around 9pm just before the first Fantasmic, they trimmed the heck out of the tree and had a very large bundle of tree remains under a tarp in the area where the old pirate band used to have thier set up.

    Sorry no pictures.

Not to sound evil but, if I saw a tree falling at DL I would run as fast as I could to get under that tree. I'm kidding of course

I was so amused at this tendency of the press to catch the teeny tiny story and miss the big one I actually wrote a blog about it last year entitled "Catching the branch and Missing the tree". You see around New Years' I was at Disneyland and it was pouring rain and because of the heavy rainfall the ground softened around the tree stumps on the Jungle Cruise and one of those huge trees fell into the river causing a tour boat to almost turn over and everyone on board to almost fall in. Apparently the skipper was scared witless. I had all this from a CM who was explaining to me why the ride was closed (off the record, so no names or anything) . I went home that night expecting to hear all about it in the news and there was nothing, I mean nothing!! I kind of scratched my head and went my way. About one month later there was this piece in the news about some woman on the Jungle Cruise getting slapped in the throat with a tree branch that the wind had blown on to her. It was on AOL and the local news... like, big freaking deal.

    I came to two conclusions:
    1. The media nowadays have no clue the big stories that they miss by focusing on petty little crap

    2. If it makes it into the news nothing really happened at Disneyland. If it's something serious involving injury, possible death or even actual death Disney will suppress it long before anyone but eyewitnesses will hear about it. So if it's in the news you can pretty much bet it's irrelevant.

I raise my Kitties right.... they only watch the finest shows.
