Eddie Murphy To Retire From Movies

    http://www.themovieblog.com/2008/07/...re-from-movies
We have word today that Eddie may have done his last film, and plans to retire from film. We get the skinny from our friends at slashfilm:
“I have close to 50 movies and it’s like, why am I in the movies?” he said, adding, “I’ve done that part now. I’ll go back to the stage and do standup.”

Murphy, 47, said that while a “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ flick was in the works, he didn’t want to do it, because “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”
If Murphy returns to stand up, I will be at the front of the welcome wagon, welcoming him back to where he belongs. 50 movies is plenty and I couldn’t agree with Eddy’s decision more. Cheers round the globe proclaim this decision to be wise. Even the animals outside my window seem happier since this news has been released.

Delirious and Raw are some of my favorite comedy films, and it’s my sincere hope that Eddy is able to release another of like quality sometime soon. This news excites me very much and I hope that it proves to be true. I would love to see Eddy Murphy live now that I am old enough to get into the clubs and pay tribute to the man that first got me interested in stand up comedy.

Maybe he should have stopped before Meet Dave, Norbit, etc. - Dave looks so stupid and I couldn't bring myself to even rent Norbit!

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

Didn't Eddie Murphy retire from making movies several years ago? Maybe it's because I only go see movies that don't suck, but I haven't seen Eddie Murphy in a movie for a long long time.

So who will replace Eddie Murphy in Shrek Goes Fourth? At least Disney didn't want Eddie Murphy to return in The Haunted Mansion 2. One of his last best films was Doctor Dolittle back in 1998.

I don't think Shrek counts since it's just his voice. Voiceover work for movies such as Shrek generally last about 2 or 3 days, and when the top 3 stars in the Shrek movies (Myers, Murphy, Diaz) are getting paid $10-$20 million per movie, for such minimal work I don't think he's going to stop doing them.

It amazes me how this man can be in a critically acclaimed movie like Dream Girls and be nominated for an Academy Award, and then go right back to doing things like Norbit and Meet Dave.

Re: Eddie Murphy To Retire From Movies

Murphy is just another once edgy comic who went mainstream in movies and jumped the shark when he started making more accessible "family-friendly" films (see: Robin Williams, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin). I don't think Murphy will give up movies forever--there's just too much money to be made--but bravo for wanting to go back to what made him famous in the first place.

I imagine he will change his tune when the child support bills come in. Too bad the most famous thing he's been in recently was Scary Spice.
