Rocky Horror Picture show as done by MTV

MTV Remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Source: Variety
July 23, 2008

MTV is developing a remake of 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, reports Variety.

Lou Adler, executive producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.

The new version will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.

The director and casting decisions have yet to be announced. The original starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf.
How do the people who have done everything to destroy music ,not even deserve their name, and have horrible programming have the gall to remake a cult classic?

If there was ever a movie that doesn't need a re-make it's this one. I won't be watching. You can't mess with a cult classic.

The original is just darn awful to start with. No remake in warranted.

Definitely isn't much of (current) MTV material... I'd think it'd go better on one of their other channels -- VH1 or Logo, maybe?

We'll just have to see what they do with it.

Have you ever actually seen it in the theatre with an audience, or just on video?

Your not going to get the full-awesome experience sitting at home.

I wonder who would be in it? Nobody could replace Tim Curry.

The original is still so popular - it's not like they're resurrecting a film or anything that people have forgotten.

I think this is a dumb mistake for MTV. But, I guess if they did it right and kept to the true spirit of the movie, it could be okay. But, I still don't think it's necessary for a remake.

I'd call that giving them far more credit than they deserve. Since it's MTV, I totally see them making some very strange casting decisions and attempting to update it in a way that veers so far from the original it will be a disgrace.

Yes I've seen it as a midnight screening, had it on video long before it was commercially available, still own the soundtrack (the films best part).. doesn't mean the film is actually any good. Let alone worth re-making (for TV no less)

Even Tim Curry (now) couldn't replace Tim Curry (then)
*shudders at the thought of Tim Curry (now) in stockings and suspenders*

Re: Rocky Horror Picture show as done by MTV

This just gives me another reason to hate MTV. I love the original Rocky Horror Picture Show , and no one (and I mean no one) could equal or top Tim Curry as Frank-n-Furter. Althought, Heath Ledger might have been able to, if anyone could.

Re: Rocky Horror Picture show as done by MTV

But the quality actor that MTV will be able to attract will NOT be able to pull it off.
