Re: Pete Docter goes UP

UP screening this Saturday with Pete Docter

Quote:
The world premiere of the film is at Cannes on May 13. UP was chosen to be the opening film of the festival, the first ever animated film to be awarded that honor.

Before that premiere, however, lucky folks in Ausitn, Texas will get an even earlier screening! On Saturday, April 18, Ain’t It Cool News, Fantastic Fest and The Alamo Kids Club are hosting a free sneak preview screening of UP at the digitally retrofitted Alamo Drafthouse Village. The director of UP, Pete Docter, will be present and available for a Q&A following the screening. Also, before the film, we will be previewing the new Pixar short PARTLY CLOUDY with director Peter Sohn and producer Kevin Reher in attendance.

We have 50 tickets to give away to the Kids Club Facebook group. Please RSVP on the Kids Club Facebook page and indicate on the wall how many tickets you would like. Priority goes to people who are bringing a child so please indicate whether you will be bringing a child in your wall post. By the end of the day on the 15th, we will post to the event wall and the Kids club wall the final ticket winners chosen at random from those who sign up. Harry is also giving away some tickets to this screening on Ain’t It Cool News.

If you don’t make either of the lists, we will have a small standby line on the day of the show. Please note that this will be a digital 2D presentation of UP as the 3D effects are not yet complete.

UP opens nationwide (and at the Village) on May 29th.

Re: Pete Docter goes UP

UP rated PG

The MPAA has designated Disney-Pixar's May 29th release, UP with a PG rating for "Some Peril and Action."

Brad Bird's 'The Incredibles' is the only other Pixar film to receive a PG rating.

If you are in the Bay Area on May 7 you can support the Emeryville Education Foundation, actually go to the Pixar campus and see UP.

Re: Pete Docter goes UP

Carl Fredricksen's
Flying Armchair!

Quote:

For two months in the Spring of 2009, Carl Fredricksen's LazyBoy will become a real-world flying armchair, attached to a beautiful cluster of giant balloons! Partnered with a team of FAA certified balloon pilots, the Cluster Balloon LazyBoy will host aeronauts on tethered flight operations in 20 U.S. cities on a whirlwind tour of the country leading up to the film's launch!
Quote:

The armchair flights will consist of a five-story tall cluster of colorful balloons carefully attached to the gondola, allowing Media VIP aeronauts to ascend to tethered altitudes above the city and experience the world of lighter-than-air flight in a very unique way!

All events have FAA commercial and gas rated pilots, and even the on-camera spokespeople will have specific LTA training. Great for the world of ballooning!

Quote:
The events are early-morning activities, with a crew meet time on the airfield at a bright early 2:00am. Lighter-than-air pilot experience, or ballooning crew experience, is very helpful.

In addition to the pure fun of these lighter-than-air special events, cluster balloon crew members will receive a special 'Cluster Crew' pin, and a Disney 'UP' T-shirt!

Re: Pete Docter goes UP

'Up' is Pixar at its most ambitious

The film began with an image of a grouchy man holding balloons. A story developed out of that -- slowly. More than four years later, it's ready.

Re: Pete Docter goes UP

Saw it today and I think it's Pixar's best. Heartwarming, exciting, and funny. A great movie full of laughs and tears, that will make anyone leave the movie theater happier.

Can't wait to see it in 3D

Re: Pete Docter goes UP

It's great that all the effort payed off, glad you guys got in.
Hope you got to see the short, 'Partly Cloudy' as well.

Apparently the Pixar team is now on their way to Cannes to open the festival there with 'UP'. It'll be interesting to see what the international reactions are like.

Partly Cloudy played as well. Great, classic Pixar short. Also saw trailer for The Princess and the Frog, and the Toy Story 3 Teaser Trailer!

Re: Pete Docter goes UP

By suggestion from another thread:

The first public advance screening of 'UP' was on April 18 at the Alamo Drafthouse Village in Austin with AICN. Pixar benefit screenings were May 2nd for The Piedmont Educational Foundation, May 7th for the Emery Ed Fund and the San Francisco Film Society has a screening on May 11th.
'UP' has its World Premiere opening the Cannes Film Festival, the first animated film in history to do so, on May 13th and the Los Angeles Premiere is Saturday May 16th at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
It screened yesterday at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art
in Hartford, CT. Screenings are scheduled for late this week and next around the SoCal area. The Radio Disney screening is May 27th and the D23 event set for May 28th back at the El Capitan Theatre.
