Beauty and the Beast 3D

‘Beauty and the Beast’ gets a 3-D makeover

I don't see anything compelling about this 3-D makeover. It reminds me of the IMAX presentation of the Disney movies. What do you guys think?

I can see the appeal in the forthcoming Toy Story 1 and 2 3D makeovers but this? Not sure.

And at least the IMAX presentations of B&tB and LK had those additional songs (although LK's didn't really work).

Re: Beauty and the Beast 3D

I think this is great news for Beauty and the Beast fans. It will make it even more apparent that this was made for the stage. As long as they just keep the 3-D natural and not use all the "tricks" like things flying out of the screen and such it will be very cool. 3-D now is so much better than it used to be that just about everything they can do can now be done. I have heard that George Lukas wants all 6 Star Wars movies to be redone in the 3-D mode and re-released to theaters including 3-D IMAX which will really be something.

If you haven't seen any of the new 3-D movies then at least go see them before you start making complaints. They are really good and now the technology exists to make any movie ever made into 3-D which really is the way we see things anyway. So it's just a natural progression into making movies seem more realistic, even the animated features and fantasy or science fiction ones. I am looking forward to it, it's a new era in movies.

It gives me goose bumps just thinking of it. I'm just happy to see it on the big screen again.

That will work very well.

But the rest of the movie? Personally I don't think that 3D suits traditional 2D animation. It makes it look like the characters are cardboard cut-outs. Of course technology has progessed a lot lately but this will not be enough to tempt me to see this movie on the big screen for the third time (having also seen it on stage twice and on video and DVD countless times).

The LK's deleted song was part of the DVD release but not the IMAX release. Seeing the film on IMAX really bothered me knowing that there was obvious missing whiskers and other small details that I could easily picked up because I was watching it on a bigger scene.

If anything though The Lion King is far more worthy of a 3D Presentation than Beauty and the Beast. Okay so maybe Batb and Aladdin have a few sequences that are going to look awesome in 3D (ex Ballroom, Cave of Wonders), but with The Lion King...you have an entire film of camera-swooming Africa! And the way it was beautifully animated so realistically, I will die if I ever get to experience that in 3D. (Just as long as it is the theatrical version they use and not the IMAX or PE version!)

Best news I've heard all day!
It'll be so amazing.

Now all they have to do is make The Little Mermaid in 3-D
then I think I'll cry of excitement.
