Question Was Tinker Bell ever Tinkle Bell ?

Was Tinker Bell ever Tinkle Bell ? (i.e. Make or cause to make a high ringing sound) Did 'they' change the name because tinkle can be used as a slang term for going piddle.("I gotta go tinkle!")
A Tinker was a traveling person who repaired small metal objects. Such as cooking pots. I don't think they would fix cracked bells. We saw the play Peter Pan. When ever Tink was flying about. (You never saw more than a point of light) You heard a tinkling sound?

Re: Was Tinker Bell ever Tinkle Bell ?

I've finally gotten a chance to sit down and look some things up about Tinker Belle. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about her name:

Quote:
Tinker Bell was described by Barrie as a fairy who mended pots and kettles, like an actual tinker. Her dialogue consists of the sounds of a tinkling bell, which is understandable only to those familiar with the language of the fairies.
Then the source for this comes from this site. In it they say this about her name:

Quote:
In the book, Tinker Bell was by trade a tinker who didn't talk, but made the sound of bells - hence the name. Tinker, bell ..get it? Cute, huh? She was just a temperamental, Drama Queen of a pixie light darting around.
So, I guess it would make sense to think her name had originally been Tinkle Belle as in the sound a bell makes, but JM Barrie says she was a tinker fairy who fixed pots and pans.

Interesting stuff.

Re: Was Tinker Bell ever Tinkle Bell ?

I have only ever heard her referred to as Tinker Bell. Both in the book, the prequels and both movies and stage plays. I never even heard of Tinkle Belle until this post.
