Childhood Favourites?

I have just returned from a week at Sherwood Forest (yes the real one!) and of course this lead us to re-watch Disney's animated version of Robin Hood.

As well as thoroughly enjoying it, the film took me back to my childhood. As a person of a certain age I grew up with the boom in home video entertainment and was part of the first generation who could enjoy widespread 'movies on demand'.

Robin Hood was one of a handful of movies that I would watch frequently. The others were as follows: -

Pete's Dragon
Pinocchio
The Fox and the Hound
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Herbie Goes Bananas
The Mad Monster Party

When I watch any of these (although I haven't seen the last since those days) it gives me a glow of rememberance for years gone by.

So, does anyone else have similar films? Movies that transport you back to being a child?

Re: Childhood Favourites?

You know...I have a hard time remembering the movies I liked. I remember the ones I hated...Bambi, Dumbo, Pinnochio.

I must have liked Robin Hood...cause the songs remind me of watching it as a child, and they always make me smile.

Not a childhood favorite (now it is) but the fact that it's on your list makes me very happy.

For me, it is definantely Pinocchio. I used to watch that video over and over; sometimes I would watch it before I went to bed. It's a classic!

yes, I do. Add Mary Poppins to that list too. ICK. I know that's really strange to say.....but, I've never liked sappy movies. Even as a child, I liked happy movies. Movies that made me laugh. So, I liked Peter Pan, Robin Hood, Bedknobs and broomsticks. Those kinds of movies.

My daughter seems to be the same way. She has every Disney movie...and never asks to watch Bambi, Dumbo or Pinnochio. She loves Jiminy Cricket....she just never watches the movie. She love to watch Chicken Little, Robin Hood, and Mr Toad.

You see I would never describe Bambi, Dumbo or Pinocchio as 'sappy' (Mary Poppins perhaps). All three a very dark in places - Dumbo and Bambi both have their mothers taken from them and Pinocchio experiences a catalogue of disasters.
I would consider Peter Pan and Robin Hood more 'sappy'. However its all in the eye of the beholder isn't it?
