Re: Princess and the Frog Trailer is HERE

Okay, NOW I can see why they are giving this movie a Disney Digital 3D cut. When I saw that in our projection booth, I was like "What?!" But some of those shots make sense now, if only to make the multi-plain effects look super awesome.

Re: Princess and the Frog Trailer is HERE

Okay, am I crazy? This whole time I've been confused about the plot of this movie. Before we had all these details, it was called "The Frog Princess" and the Wikipedia article has always stated it would be based on the tale of the same name. Now this trailer makes it clear that it's based on "The Frog Prince", a similar story but a completely different plot. And also, the Wikipedia now says that's it's based on a young adult novel by E. D. Baker! I've been so confused, the whole time I thought it would be a tale more similar to The Frog Princess and was wondering how they were going to do that, haha. The Wiki article for the Frog Princess fairy tale still says the movie is an adaptation of that tale, as well.

As for the film itself, I've been becoming slightly more disappointed in it ever since they started changing names around. Maddy became Tiana, etc, and I was expecting to see a lot more of 1020s culture as the historical background for the movie. So far, the aesthetic doesn't jive with me; what I see in the trailer doesn't feel rooted in either the 20's or New Orleans. I hope I'm wrong and the rest of the film will feel period and not just generic "princess" or "Disney". Disney films in the 1990s were so unique unto themselves, with distinct looks and storytelling in each film, and more "general" and "sellable" in Disney anything has so far been equalling "less heart".

Re: Princess and the Frog Trailer is HERE

Looks great! I can see little bits "borrowed" from past movies like Aladdin and The Rescuers. And the Mark Twain looks good, that is if that is the Mark Twain.

I wonder if this will be a catalyst for other studios to go back to 2D handrawn animation.

Re: Princess and the Frog Trailer is HERE

It's so weird seeing a prince with so much personality... Usually they just sit there and save the princess.

Loving the trailer! I can't wait for the premiere... I sure hope this one breaks records.
