I can't wait to see Ponyo! It's so unfair this was already released in Japan last July. I won't be able to make the film festival, I'll have to wait til August when it comes out in limited release all over the country. IMO, Miyazaki's talents have not withered over time as Howl's Moving Castle, his feature before Ponyo, was still great and had that certain spark and magic his earlier films have.

Re: 'Ponyo' premiere at Los Angeles Film Festival 6/28

soooo...i got to watch the film last night. yippie!

noah cyrus + frankie jonas were the only members of the english-speaking cast present. + both i felt gave great performances in the film.

the movie itself is so charming + innocent. i loved it.

there seemed to be quite a bit of children in the audience which was great + i heard a number of them asking their parents if they could buy the dvd or watch the film again, hahaha. some were even singing the "ponyo" song.
i think that's awesome, especially since disney films are seem somewhat a norm for children to watch in american, hopefully miyazaki films can also start to build a stronger presence here in the states as well.

speaking of children, little jordan nagai was also there!
he's so tiny, hahaha, i got to meet him very briefly. so soft spoken but very nice, hahaha.

i hope you all go out to watch it when the film is officially released on august 14th.

Hey, I've heard that they might be scheduling some local advance screenings. I'll let you know if this happens. Love the trailer!

Re: 'Ponyo' premiere at Los Angeles Film Festival 6/28

I saw a sneak preview last night and I totally loved this movie. It's the most simple Miyasaki movie I've ever seen but it's beautiful. I can't wait to buy the DVD and watch it in Japanese. I get the feeling that some of the translations were a bit off.

By the way the closing song was the most annoying thing I've ever heard..... and I'll never look at ham the same!

2D animation fans were apparently busy in theatres watching 'District 9'...

Walt Disney Pictures' U.S. release of Hayao Miyazaki's 'Ponyo' opened in 9th place at U.S. box offices with $3.5 million on 927 screens.

If it had been playing closer to me I might have been able to see it. I will be seeing it this week. I just have to travel to do so.
