Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I saw "Up" last night in "Disney's Digital 3-D" format and what better of an opening statement other than "PIXAR has done it again!!!"

My original plans were to see "Up" on opening day but plans that I made far in advanced had to be taken care of first. I then had no problem settling for the second day but in my excitement, I underestimated the popularity of PIXAR movies. Not thinking of "Fandango" due to my excitement I attemted to order tickets for the 7:00 PM showing. That didn't work out......SOLD OUT!!!. I was crushed because I really didn't think I would have the time to stay for the 9:30 PM showing but then I saw the 7:30 PM showing. I noticed it didn't have 3-D. There was no way I would miss PIXAR's first 3-D film if it was in regular format. It was like "Do you want a great donut, or a great donut with powdered sugar on top?" Any-who I was able to stay for the 9:30 PM show and I made sure to get in line way early. This is where my review starts.

Review:

Partly Cloudy

To be perfectly honest, as big of a PIXAR fan I am I had no idea of which short film was going to be played. However I was defiantly surprised, in a good way. "Partly Cloudy" is a short story, in which the main moral relies on loyalty. "Partly Cloudy" was easily one of PIXAR's best short films mostly due to the fact that it was a purely beautiful setting and story. It is possibly PIXAR's most emotional short story in my opinion. Just wonderful!

UP 3-D

At first I was didn't know what to expect from "UP". I didn't know how "UP" would follow, possibly PIXAR's most emotional movie WALL*E. "UP" is probably the most cartoon like of PIXAR's movies but it also holds such realism. You just cant help to fall in love with the determination of the characters you have to follow. It's arguable that "UP" has the most lovable characters out of any PIXAR film. This is possible through the beautiful backgrounds these characters come from. The beginning of "UP" is defiantly one of the most deep in any PIXAR film. "UP" holds everything a movie should posses, drama, romance, comedy, thrills, adventure, and emotion. I believe that "UP" is the most emotional PIXAR movie due to the bond between relationships and friendships, as well as dedication ofthe characters through love and emotion. And to top it all off, Dug may be one of my all time favorite PIXAR characters now, he's just the most awesome character ever! I really enjoyed "UP" as I do every PIXAR movie and the 3-D effect just leaves you even more speechless. If you see this movie, please go for the 3-D. You will not be disappointed. "UP" was an excellent movie, and while I wouldn't call it my "very favorite" PIXAR movie, I still hold a special bond to it, just as I do every PIXAR movie.

Disney* PIXAR's "UP 3-D" (9.0/10) ***** "Excellent!!!"

i don't think A113 is in every film. funny because i first noticed it in Wall.E, then saw it on Toy Story, then The Incredibles and was like "there it is again!" until i finally looked it up and saw what it meant.

the only thing i saw was that Toy Story ball with a star on it, in the room with the little girl playing as Carl's house floats by.

Actually, it is. It appears early in the film before Carl begins his airborne journey. If you really want to know where, do a Google search for the numerous web sites that have it detailed.

It was the one thing I caught; I missed the Pizza Planet truck for some strange reason.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I just came back from the theater.

The movie was amazing. Playing on all emotions the way the movie did, made it so great. Laughs, anger, sadness, UP had it all.

Pete Docter did a great job in balancing these emotions with extremely sad moments followed by extremely funny moments.

Easily one of Pixar's best, I put it #2 behind Wall-E in my rankings.

5/5

Apparently the Pizza Planet truck appears in 2 different scenes. I didn't see the one at the end but I did see it parked on the street as Carl's home sets sail over the city.

I voted for a 5 in the poll, by the way. As always, Pixar crams a wealth of depth into the montages.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

Saw it tonight in 3D. Thought it was terrific. Probably my 3rd favorite Disney/Pixar movie after A Bugs Life and Wall-E.

I didn't realize how sad it would be, there were a few parts when I just wanted to hold my wife's hand. Unfortunately the kids were between us.

A very funny, emotional, deep and beautiful movie.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I saw it today. It was very emotional and is one of the few movies that have been able to make me cry. Especially the main character Carl reminded me so much of my own father so much.

I would rank it the best Pixar film just below Wall-E. Carl is one of the most realistic animated characters I have seen. And the inital scenes of the house floating by rank up there with the classic flying scenes in Mary Poppins or E.T.
However, if I didn't have to suspend disbelief so much I would have voted it the best. I mean, I don't see how an 80 year old man let alone any man can physically and seemingly easily drag along a house floating in the air by thousands of balloons. And also dogs flying airplanes. With Wall-E it was easier to accept these types of things because it was set in a different time in a different place so to speak.

Juxtaposed next to the realism of Carl's character, I really had to remind myself that these sequences were pure fantasy and that Carl's ability to drag his house along came from his determination to fulfill his dream. But then maybe that was done on purpose -- so that we understood how important all of this is to him.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I loved this movie. It's depth and humor. The artwork. The image of a house floating by balloons is hysterical and awe inspiring, makes me wish a house might go floating by my window. I look forward to many repeat viewings.

Now ZeekSlider asked if anyone felt uncomfortable when Ellie and Carl lost the baby. Both my wife and I felt very uncomfortable and very sad. See we lost 2 babies. For her, she will probably not want to see this movie ever again, she cried through the whole movie. If you are looking for an escape, this movie may not be it, as it is a very real portrayal of what happens in our lives.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I just saw it the other day and like many others found it to be very emotional. The opening had me both laughing and crying. The action was top notch.

Once again Pixar has made a movie that is very different from all their other films. So do not go in expecting Monster's INC, NEMO, Wall-E, or any of the other films. Just go and enjoy UP for itself.

Bolt was Toy Story with domesticated animals. Up is worlds apart. And worlds better.

Actually, it's probably unfair to compare them because they're completely different movies.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I did not care for Bolt when it was in the theatre at all. I've watched it once on DVD and liked it a little better, so it probably is growing on me.

But I absolutely LOVED Up.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I also think Up is better than Bolt. They both have small issues for me though, but the heart in Up is more meaningful to me than Buzz the dog. I mean Bolt Lightyear. I mean.. oh nevermind.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I too have to pipe in about "Is Up better than Bolt".
Is that even a question?!?! Up is WAY better than Bolt.
I liked Bolt, but I didn't really care that much for the characters. I liked the characters, but I didn't REALLY care. Bolt was action and adventure with VERY little heart.
Up REALLY touched me. Up had a GREAT deal of heart and made me root for the characters and REALLY care about them.
