Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

Last summer when I saw Wall-E I left the theater with my brother just going WOW. When I saw UP a few weeks ago at the WDW Downtown Disney movie theater I wasn't too sure about the movie at first. First of all, it was in an older theater and had a strange seating arrangement. We went to the normal 2D versus the 3D due to the different playing times. Who cares about 3D vs 2D.. the movie was utmost amazing in the 2D; the 3D movie would have added to the value though! My friends and I left totally amazed. The movie had heart, humor and life lessons, which isn't that what all the great Disney movies are made of? I really hope this movie goes on to winning all the film awards this year it's nominated for!

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

One of the true marks of a great film is if it can get ANY crowd to quiet down. The group that came in tonight during our showing was young, brash, and loud. I rolled my eyes thinking that we were in for a night of loud and inappropriate interruptions.

But throughout the film...during scenes that were extremely quiet for long stretches of time...you could have heard a pin drop.

And applause from these young hooligans at the end.

As for me....it was very tough to not lose it in front of my kids. So many different themes in this film. Facing an empty house is not something I'm particularly looking forward two, and fortunately, with all three of my kids still with me, I'll probably not have to worry about that for some time.

But leaving my home....after years, and years...all those memories....packing up for the last time....how do people do that?

Five stars from me, and I'm still feeling very verklempt.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

'Up' is brilliant. I agree thoroughly with so many of the accolades stated here. And, in regard to the comments that it got a little "out there" or "zany" towards the end, I really enjoyed the balance of the realism of the beginning with the wild fantasy of the adventure. I suppose I was willing to suspend ALL disbelief because the characters were so well established...even talking dogs flying planes.

I've gotten misty-eyed and cried at other movies before. But this is the only movie where I was literally crying one minute and laughing the next. And let me just say how pleased I am that the main characters of an adventure film are a septagenerian and a chubby asian boy. (On a purely personal level, this former chubby asian boy really enjoyed the racially and age inclusive "casting" choices.) This film succeeds because it chose to re-examine what an "adventure" film could be.

Saw it in 3-D on Tuesday, and i liked it more. Even knowing what was coming, I still cried. It seemed so bright and fresh and less animated and more real in 3-D. Still my #1. They did such a great job and blending humor with the tugging of heartstrings.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

Saw Up in 3-D last week. I laughed at times, and teared up at others. The most poiniant scene in the film was when the spirit of Carl's wife left the written message for him at the end of the film. "Thank's for the adventure. Have a new one!" That was so sweet, and the indicative reference to a spiritual God of a love that is timeless made me cry tears of happiness. I lost my mother earlier this year, and I couldn't help but feel that she was right there with me in spirit, enjoying the film. My mother always talked about the adventure of life anytime we were on the road during a vacation trip.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

the beginning of the movie is very heart warming and especially how it is put in perspective view of life. I saw both versions of it. the 3d wasn't that all much. I really enjoyed the non 3d version movie. Besides Coralines 3d version is amazing though.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

What can I say about Up? The movie amazed me. Although I don't think it is the best Pixar movie, it is definitely a good one, and is at the top half of the list. The character development was excellent. Within the first 10 minutes of the movie, you feel like you have known Carl for your whole life, and really understand the pain he is feeling for his deceased wife. I'm not one to cry in movies, but the movie did have its emotional moments that affected me. The movie is definitely an adventure film, and some of the faster paced action sequences are awesome, and really keep you going. I liked the villian. He was one of the "stop at nothing" villains, kind of like Syndrome from The Incredibles. I never thought that the movie was too "strange" for my tastes. The part with the dogs flying bi-planes was kind of strange, but humorous. The idea of the flying house was brilliant, and really gives off a feeling of fantasy and escape. Overall, the movie was incredible. I found no flaws with it. Pixar continues to grow, and the animation also continues to improve. I loved this movie. It was definitely my favorite summer movie. Pixar movies are usually my favorites though, nobody shoot me, but I liked WALL-E better than the Dark Knight. Dark Knight is great, but definitely has too much hype, and is overrated.

Up was one of those movies that sucked me in. I wasn't analyzing it at all like I do with other movies. I eventually felt like I was sucked out of my seat and was actually a part of the film. I love it when movies do that!

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

Just a couple more thoughts about the film.

I really don't know how Pixar managed to find such gifted composers for each sound track so far, but when I look back on all of their movies, I can't imagine Toy Story without Randy Newman, Nemo without Thomas Newman (My personal favorite) and the Incredibles, Ratatuoille and now Up with Michael Giacchino.

These three composers have NAILED each of their respective films. Thomas Newman wouldn't have worked well for UP, but was perfect for Nemo and Wall-E. Capturing the early 20th century feel of Carl and his wife was spot on by Giacchino, and the soaring waltz as his house took off was perfect.

I really don't know how they do it. Congratulations to Pixar and also to their three amazing composers.

^ Good point about the music. Something that tends to get overlooked on the Pixar movies. And I'm assuming that Randy Newman is going to come back for TS3.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

Gaichhino requested to be on the project when he found out about UP. Pixar didn't approach him; it was the other way around.

I liked the interview I saw where he explained all this, as well as the inspiration for the music. The guy really knows his period genres and even went so far as to audition a vaudville singer for the song during the credits.
