I REALLY wish it was playing around here tonight since we won't have time to see it this weekend.

Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

Hi all. I was lucky enough to see this film a few weeks ago, and have been anxious for other reviews since! Since it opens Fri and I know a lot of you are going to the D23 screening tonight! So I thought I'd post a thread for everyone's reviews.

I thought I wouldn't like this movie... the previews made it look like a dumb little buddy movie. But this movie has such hidden depth and emotion... it made me cry! It also made me laugh a lot. I love the characters, even Dug the dog and Kevin the bird. There are also some great sight gags and unexpected moments!

This movie has heart!

But I still have issues about Russell staying on that porch as the house goes up in the air

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

If it’s comedy you want, Up has it. If it’s adventure, you will have no problem finding it here. But unlike any of the other Pixar films that have come before it, this one feels the most zany and cartoon-like of all. But at the same time it feels real. There’s something else buried in this film that is driving the core; a subtle trait that might go unnoticed or dismissed by the masses, but is most certainly apparent.

There’s a scene where Russell, the young wilderness explorer muses about his so-far short life that "it's the boring things he remembers". It's a thoughtful moment, one of many that might be the point of the entire picture.

In the end, it wasn't the adventure that I find most memorable in Up. It was the smaller, subtle details. The emotion. The "boring” things. The film tells us that, much like in John Lasseter’s ‘Cars’, it is the journey that is the true adventure and the little things in life that are the most memorable. “Up” is no longer the direction the house goes but a reminder that there’s only one direction left to go when you’ve hit bottom and have nowhere else to turn.

Up is a sweet and charming example of modern animation and while it may not be as commercial as critics would prefer, it is a triumph of the human heart and imagination. Pixar’s tenth film may not be your favorite nor is it mine, the first five minutes of Up by itself, however, is some of the most beautiful series of imagery I’ve seen in any film. Up may not be exactly what audiences were expecting but it certainly is refreshing.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

I attended the all-media afternoon screening today at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. The trailers for 'Toy Story 3' & 'G-Force' looked terrific in Disney Digital 3D, 'The Princess and the Frog' looked gorgeous in 2D and 'Lighten Up!' an all new live Disney stage show was good fun. The dancers really work it, particularly Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Chip n' Dale. The song selections and costumes are very 'Dancing with the Stars'esque with some kids-from-the-audience participation too.

I found 'UP' to be the most romantic of all of Pixar's films to date. It is so much about the romance of youth, imagination, love and adventure. Especially the love of adventure whether it is in an exotic land or leaving one's front door. It really celebrates the romance of living and the romance of a lifetime. Pixar's first 3D film is beautifully realized, actually breathtaking in many scenes, and is utterly thrilling, hilarious and heartrending.

Peter Sohn's 'Partly Cloudy' short was wonderful, just lovely, lovely.

See these gems at the El Capitan Theatre!

I had NO idea how much I would enjoy this movie. Applause for John Lasster. It will pull at all your heart strings, and you'll leave wanting to see it again.

Did you all know that Russell is based on a real person? Check this out:

The Mans Show boy looks just like Russell!

I'm hoping to check out the movie on Monday. Can't wait.

^ I think I've seen that one. Great stuff. Is that going to be the Up sequel? They can just call it "Beer".

It'd be great to see Pixar animate that skit with Russell in it.

Re: Pixar's Up - MiceChat Reviews!

Just saw Up (now PatF trailer for me though) and thought it was very good. However, those talking dogs seemed out of place to me for whatever reason. I guess I felt a movie that at one moment could make me cry shouldn't have dogs who sound like the Chipmunks.

But it is definitely worth seeing and one of Pixar's better films for sure.

Coraline, however would get my vote for animated movie of the year.
