Poll: Up vs. Bolt

I noticed Al Lutz's editor note today.

Quote:
Editor's Note 6/5: Is it just me, or was Bolt better than Up? - Al Lutz
I liked both films, and I definitely think that Walt Disney Animation Studios is on the right track toward making the best animated films again. However, I definitely thought Up was a better film, and I also think Up is definitely one of Pixar's best films. What do you think?

I prefered Up Filet Mignon to the Bolt Liver & Onions.

After reading about the debate started on another thread, I knew it was only a matter of time before I'd see this poll go "up"!

Re: Poll: Up vs. Bolt

There's just no contest in this comparison. Bolt, while entertaining in its own way, is about as processed and unoriginal as it gets. Big-name star voice-overs, an unoriginal plot (Toy Story did it MUCH better), the most bland character designs they could've come up with (I guess that's my fault for comparing it to the original Chris Sanders designs), and characters I just couldn't relate to or care about.

Up, meanwhile, had interesting characters, all of whom I was able to care about and relate to. The character designs (and backgrounds and props) were well-crafted and unique. While there's nothing wrong with straight-forward action storytelling (as seen in "Bolt"), there was something fresh and cohesive about the way the "Up" storyline moved through the Ups and Downs of the narrative (pun fully intended).

Finally, I'm not a dog person (or a pet person at all, for that matter), and so "Bolt" left me rather cold, cause I just didn't care about the owner/pet relationship. However, with "Up," I really felt the warmth and companionship that Dug offered, and I even understood why Russell loved Kevin. (But my kids STILL aren't getting a pet anytime soon!!!) And the overall theme of "make your life an adventure, no matter what stage of life you're in and what your circumstances are" is much more meaningful to me than whatever bland "be true to yourself" or "love is greater than all" theme "Bolt" had.

Re: Poll: Up vs. Bolt

Absolutely no comparison. Not even close.

Bolt was actually my LEAST favorite of the 3 "Disney" computer animated movies. (yes, I was that one person who actually liked Chicken Little).

Re: Poll: Up vs. Bolt

The two are very, very different films telling two very different stories. However, UP made me cry and laugh many times while Bolt only made me laugh a few time so my vote has to go to UP.

Re: Poll: Up vs. Bolt

I really enjoyed Bolt. Was it better than Up! ? There are definitely some thing Pixar did better with Up! than Disney did with Bolt, but for right now, I'm going with Bolt. Which movie does better evoking the emmotions, Up! Which one is more "kid friendly"? Bolt.

If the question were Up! or Wall-e, I'd go with Up!

I do like Bolt better than Up.

For Disney cgi movies

1. Bolt
2. Meet the Robinson's
3. Chicken Little (although chicken little had coolest 3D Glasses, I doubt we will ever see 3D glasses themed to a movie for quite a while. )

4. (if you count it as cgi, even though most backgrounds were combined from live footage) Dinosaur.

I haven't seen either yet, but I'll take a wild guess and say that Pixar did a stunner job as always, and therefore wins.

Haha, I would even put Dinosaur above Chicken Little. Maybe I need to give it another shot but I absolutely could not care any less for the characters.

I think Al needs to come look at this poll.

Re: Poll: Up vs. Bolt

You know, is it me, or does Al Lutz have some insane Disney bias? Which is absurd, since they're practically the same company, just different studios. And both are run by the same man: Lasseter.

I just can't believe he thinks the well-meaning, but still processed Disney CGI flicks are better than the recent Pixar fare...that's just...ludicrous...
