Ice Age 3 now 3rd highest grossing animated film.

Has anyone noticed that Ice Age 3 is now the 3rd highest grossing animated film of all time worldwide, behind Shrek 2 and Finding Nemo? This is, of course, not adjusted for inflation...but nonetheless, quite impressive. Current worldwide gross is 806 million plus, largely due to a massive foreign intake of 613 million plus...the highest foreign gross of any film this year, and an all time record for an animated film (again, not adjusted for inflation, but still...). I have not seen the film myself, and was wondering if any of you, who have, could explain why this film might have such great appeal abroad. In the US...it grossed a moderate 192 million...and as far as I recall, had only so-so reviews. Why the big discrepancy in appeal at home and abroad? Would love to hear people's thoughts on this.

I did see the movie and was sorry I wasted a gift card on it. I frankly have no idea why it would do so well overseas. My comment when I returned home was that they should stop making these Ice Age movies now. My personal opinion was that Bolt was much better than this. I would also be interested in the answer to your question from someone who can perhaps offer some insight.

Well, between this and Transformers 2, it's proven there is no accounting for taste when talking about box office numbers.

High box office numbers don't generally = good movie.

Uggh, yeah. And I still can't recover from how well Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo-Doo did. We need a list of crappy movies that did exceedingly well at the box office.
