True, but at this point I watch more films on my iPod, especially when I travel. Make for a quick and easy video library in my pocket that I can plug into an TV anywhere.

Re: UP DVD Release, DVD Collection, and DVD vs. Blu-Ray

If DVD is good enough for you, then there isn't much that can be said. For me, buying a 47" tv and a 7.1 surround system makes the quality in resolution VERY important. SD video tends to look like crap even when it is upconverted.

Re: UP DVD Release, DVD Collection, and DVD vs. Blu-Ray

yeah, watching movies primarily on an ipod would kind of not make Blu-Ray that necessary.

DVD has been good enough (and still is) to more than 90% of the general public. That's blue rays biggest hurdle.

I don't WATCH them on my iPod, I store them in my iPod for playback on any TV. That's where the market has grown by leaps and bounds over the last 3 years. It's forced the studios to include a 'digital copy' with most new titles, but seriously I don't want to make this another blue ray bashing thread/debate. I just wanted to point out that UP will sell 93 - 98% of there home videos as DVD's not blue rays (and lord don't let them put out a pan and scan copy, because the industry has yet to ween the public off of those abominations)

And DVD was good enough for 100% at one time.

Then 99%

98%

and on and on.

The market is increasing as HDTV increases.

Haha that sounds like an awesome deal, but I'm in SD, so it's a bit of a distance. And 120" I didn't even know they made TVs that big.
What kind of TV is it?

BBWWWAAAAHHH?! Yesterday?!? How?
The movie doesn't come out till the 10th.

That's funny, my girlfriend's sister said that exact same thing yesterday about DVDs looking better on Blu-Ray players... I had no idea before then that it even made a difference.
Haha. We actually decided not to drive all the way up to the Soda Fountain. But we are going to at least go to d-land that day, so we might wear our hats and "Grape Crush" bottle caps :P.
Yah, its totally true about regular DVDs. You will not be sorry!
Glad to hear you will at least rock the hats/pins. I just hope they come out with more merch, (although I scored a box set of brand new highly detailed PVCs, last week), "keep it coming" I say. There needs to be more!

Re: UP DVD Release, DVD Collection, and DVD vs. Blu-Ray

There's also this:
UP on DVD at Amazon is $16.
Monsters Inc on DVD at Amazon is $16.
Together that equals $32....

I paid $32 total for Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital Copies of UP and Monsters Inc.
Doesn't feel like I'm getting ripped off by overly priced Blu-Ray discs.
But I dunno, I could be wrong.

I already have a perfectly good DVD copy of Monsters Inc. Wal Mart and Amazon have the "Up" DVD for less than $15.

I'll still have $15 to buy up to 3 more films (The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Edward Siccorhands , When Harry Met Sally, all less than $5 each) that I don't already have.

It's so awesome!!!

Honestly, with Netflix we don't really buy too many movies anymore, just the ones we REALLY want. Otherwise we just rent them, watch them, send them back.

There are still some movies we will buy on DVD such as Romantic Comedies that don't come with a DVD copy. This way the wife can watch them in the bedroom.

I also have a perfectly good DVD copy that I bought when Blu-Ray wasn't an option. Now that there is a far superior version that will maximize the potential of my home theater while giving me a digital copy that I can watch on my handheld, it is no longer good enough for me.

I've been slowly selling off my standard Disney DVD collection to suckers.. i mean.. those who don't understand the dealio about HD. So, upgrading for me has been a no brainer.

Considering Disney is including DVD and digital copies, he probably won't. In the meantime, he'll have a high quality version of the movie instead of settling for good enough.
