A Dark Knight in Chicago

The Chicago Tribune reports that Warner Bros. Pictures will shoot Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight in Chicago for 13 weeks:

After Vince Vaughn and company wrap shooting of "Fred Claus" here on Friday, the city gets a break before Universal Pictures brings "The Express" to the Windy City in April for three months of filming. It's the life story of Ernie Davis, the first black college football player to win the Heisman Trophy. Once "The Express" is done, Warner Brothers will be in Chicago for 13 weeks for its next "Batman" project, starring Christian Bale.

The studio is targeting a July 18, 2008 release date for the anticipated film.

Emily Blunt in "The Dark Knight"?

By: Karl Schneider, News Editor
Source: Cinema Blend
Date: Friday, February 2, 2007

According to CinemaBlend, The Dark Knight's director, Chris Nolan, will take a look at Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt for the role recently vacated by Katie Holmes.

Cinema Blend writes:
Obviously Chris Nolan is actively looking for someone to take over Katie Holmes’ Rachel Dawes character in the new Batman film. Earlier this week rumor had it that they were considering Rachel McAdams for the part, but according to one of our regular scoopers, they may end up going with Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt. Word is that the folks behind the Batman Begins sequel are impressed with her, and may bring Blunt in to read for the role.
Our same anonymous source insists that Katie didn’t leave the project, but was dropped. Anything you’ve heard otherwise is just PR spin to save face. Of course, anyone with half a brain could have figured that out. You don’t intentionally ditch a recurring role in Batman to star in a crappy romantic comedy with Queen Latifah. Nobody, not even Katie Holmes, is that stupid.

Re: The Dark Knight news

Regardless if it was her leaving the film herself or being dropped, this movie is already looking a whole lot better.

By: Karl Schneider, News Editor
Source: Latino Review
Date: Sunday, February 4, 2007

According to Latino Review, the leading contender for the role of Harvey Dent, aka Two Face, in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight is Aaron Eckhart (Thank You For Smoking).

The site also added another name to the current list of hopefuls up for the role recently vacated by Katie Holmes. The name? Maggie Gyllenhaal. Rachel McAdams and Emily Blunt have also been named as in consideration for that role.

So would this be considered good news for the movie?
I would call this Batman 2. The previous four films I would say is one set, Batman Begins started a whole new telling of the Batman story. I refuse to view Batman Begins as a sequal to Batman & Robin. :shudder: I also have no problem with Katie Holmes leaving the series.

Aaron Eckhart joins "The Dark Knight"

By: Karl Schneider, News Editor
Source: Hollywood Reporter
Date: Friday, February 16, 2007

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the rumor started by Latino Review saying that Aaron Eckhart is in talks to play Harvey Dent/Two Face in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight, is in fact true. Eckhart is now in final negotiations with Warner Bros for the role and has all but signed on.

Eckhart will join a cast that includes Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Heath Ledger.

The script was written by Nolan's brother, Jonathan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer.
Sounds like it's going to be a good one.

Eric Roberts adds 'Dark Knight' to crowded schedule

ROBERTS

Quote:
Eric Roberts has just been set to play a Mafia kingpin in Christopher Nolan's latest Christian Bale "Batman" movie, "The Dark Knight," joining the production in June. It's the latest in an especially bountiful current crop of assignments for Roberts, including his ongoing series roles on "Heroes" and "The L Word," and his June Hallmark Channel presentation, "Pandemic," with Faye Dunaway.

"I don't stop working. I'm a workaholic. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm too overexposed to ever be a superstar, so I'm happy to be a working actor every day," explains the actor also known as rising star Emma Roberts' dad, and superstar Julia's brother.

Referring to his unrequited 1985 Academy Award nomination for "Runaway Train" (Don Ameche won for "Cocoon"), Roberts goes on lightly. "Once they gave my Oscar to the wrong person, I called my agent and said, 'From now on if there's one good thing about a project, I'll do it.' If the character is good, I'll do it. If the director is good, I'll do it. If the location is good, I'll do it." "Pandemic," in which he plays the mayor of Los Angeles trying to cope with an outbreak of avian flu, allowed him the chance to play "a nice man who is doing a good thing. I always play bad guys, you know?"

Of "Heroes," he notes, "It's a blast to walk into a hit show with none of the pressure of making it a hit." He's fond of "The L Word," but admits he almost didn't take his role as a charming cad on the series. "When I was offered the show, I was very tired because I'd just done a movie, but my lawyer, my daughter and my stepdaughter ganged up on me to get me to do it. All the actors are so good on that show," adds Roberts. "My character is a bit of a jerk, trying to do the right things. It's a bit of a jerk, trying to do the right things. It's a bit of a challenge."

If you search the net, there were a couple of blurry shots that surfaced in the last week or so. One that seemed to be Ledger walking near some trailers in costume and make-up (it was blurry and shot at a long distance, so it's difficult to tell for certain), and another close up shot of a make-up test that may or may not be accurate to what is actually being used.
