I'm going to see it Sunday. From a historical standpoint, I want to see how well they stick to the historical truths. I'm dying to see the seadogs take on the Armada.

Spoiler
I loved it myself. I felt they showed a good example of how Queen Elizabeth I dealed with the Mary Stuart issue. As they say it, in history about the two didn't even met. I love this version of Queen Elizabeth I. I'm referring to both "Elizabeth" & "Elizabeth: The Golden Age, in my last sentence. Though, I don't know who that Isabella is suppose to be?

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age (reviews)

As I posted it on the movie thread -

I saw Elizabeth last night (I went on Friday night)- OH WOW is all I can say Cate Blanchett is amazing - Geoffry Rush, amazing - Tom Hollender (Beckett in Pirates) was Queen Mary's main guard - he is soooo good, he looked nothing like other roles so his voice was how I figured out who he was - the costumes, the photography, the story, the characters - the actors - AMAZING!

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age (reviews)

It was total eye candy, and I thought Cate Blanchett was absolutely perfect (as always). And yummy yummy Clive Owen as Sir Walter Raleigh? He was amazing and smoldering.

I actually clapped when they started launching the "fire ships." I'd been waiting to see that.

Samantha Morton was perfect as Mary Stuart. I'm glad I'd read several books on their conflict. Mary was a sneaky snake of a woman.

There has to be a third movie, no?

I thought so too, about the Mary Stuart issue. Interesting, just remembering the old Disney Short "The Truth about Mother Goose" and that "Mary Queen of Scots' one. They all make Queen Elizabeth I, like she's just the one being bad.

According to Cate Blanchett talking on Entertainment Tonight. That they will likely make a third one, but they are not in too much of a hurry. After all, she died of old age.

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age (reviews)

i didn't get to see it. My daughter was called into work today. It will have to wait for a couple of weeks now. Unless I can sneak a movie in while at DL this weekend.

Wasn't Isabella the Queen of Spain during this part of history? I know that Spain and England had several religious wars with each other, the Spaniards being Catholic and English being Anglicans.

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age (reviews)

Isabella Clara was King Phillip II's daughter.

At the time of the movie, England was a protestant state.

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age (reviews)

Also Isabella was a child - it was her father who waged war - when Elizabeth said that the ships carry the Spanish Inquisition - geez, Monty Python jumped into my head! LOL
