Re: Nims Island

I read the book and it was really fun! My only issue was that it was only a 120 page book, and the Jodie Foster character didn't show up to the island until the last 10-15 pages. I'm sure that they've added a whole bunch for the movie to give her some more screen time.

Anyway, I am excited to take my kids to see it.

Re: Nims Island

I find this movie intriguing because I know a woman named Nim who actually does live on her own little island in Norway.

Re: Nims Island

I found the previews in the theater interesting on this movie. The first time I saw a preview I was not there for a children's movie and the preview focused more on Jodi Foster and her character's fears and the imaginary Indiana Jones type character that "helps" her. It wasn't until I went to Horton Hears A Who and saw a preview that focused on Abigail B. and her adventures that I realized it was more of a children's movie. (I never heard of much less read the book). I do think it looks good and will probably go to see it. I will be interested in our Mice Chatter's reviews

Re: Nims Island

Went and saw this today - first I was disappointed the theater wasn't more crowded but then I need to remember about the economy and taking a family of 4 to the movies, even to a manitee is costly

We got our meals from the mall foodcourt - wasn't in the mood for theatre food, tho we usually get food there to support the theatre

Settle in - previews are cute - new Eddie Murphy movie coming out and it looks funny! Another movie coming out Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D with Brenden Fraser looks like good summer fun

Movie starts - it's a story told by a little girl Nim - it was cute, scenery was breathtaking.......Jodie Foster was hilarious - really out of character for her in movies it was so refreshing! Gerard Butler - hot hot hot! beefy hot! He wasn't ripped and that was nice and normal

It's a story of a girl believing in her hero she reads about in a book - written by Alex Rover - but Alex Rover is a girl - Nim's father leaves for 2 days to get sea samples and NIm has to protect their island from intruders and she asks Alex Rover, her hero, not the writer for help

I could have done without the over characterized visitors on vacation - but then I needed to remember that it was from a childs point of view

I couldn't place where I'd seen this kind of story - kind of reminded me of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - story comes to life type thing but thankfully not a musical- it will come to me in the middle of the night probably

I really enjoyed Jodie Foster, how she was always talking to herself/the hero (Gerard Butler) - all her imagination - but then since I work at home and my contacts are usually on the computer, I could almost relate

All in all - it was fun, it was cute, and you will laugh and say ahhhhhh

I will warn you the CGI was horrendous - you would think with the budget, the stars the studio power they would have gotten better CGI artists and screen artists - because the graphics, you could tell they were graphics, you could tell it was a green screen - that was the most disappointing part of the whole thing

Again I had to remind me it was for kids and they won't notice

Re: Nims Island

I liked the movie. I loved watching the progression of the Jodie Foster character. I don't know that I completely consider this a childrens movie. There were parts that I was enjoying but my daughter and her friend looked bored. I'm not sure why it is rated PG (I think, at least that is what the internet said 3 weeks ago) when there isn't anything in it I wouldn't let a four year old watch.

I want to see it for one reason. Gerald Butler. I think he's hot and my mom's had a thing for him since seeing 'Phantom Of The Opera'.

Re: Nims Island

Saw Nim's Island Sunday with my two boys who, after seeing the trailer on TV a million times, were interested in it. We all thought it was pretty good and agreed that the lizard named Fred was our favorite character.
