![]() | Re: Most overrated and underrated comic book movies ^ I loved Mystery Men comics! Flaming Carrot was even better, though. Bob Burden was one of my favorites and I was happily able to meet him and hang out a bit with him at San Diego Comic Con years ago. Last edited by PEZZ Lightyear; 05-05-2008 at 05:27 PM. |

![]() | Re: Most overrated and underrated comic book movies I saw a SuperMan cartoon movie DVD on sale earlier this week, and it said on the cover of the DVD "The first ever PG-13 SuperMan Movie!". No one bought it. |

![]() | Re: Most overrated and underrated comic book movies Underrated, due to the fact that nobody has mentioned it: Batman-Mask of the Phantasm. I know it's an animated film, but it's an animated film based on what many consider the definitive screen version of Batman.

![]() | Re: Most overrated and underrated comic book movies Batman Forever is grossly underrated. It's a great popcorn flick, if not as dark as Begins. Also, Road to Perdition is one of the greatest adult comic adaptations ever.

Batman Forever is a good movie to stick kids in front of for a couple of hours, but as far as my personal enjoyment goes, I hate it tremendously. I did like it when I was 9 though.

![]() | Re: Most overrated and underrated comic book movies I read an interview with Michael Uslan about how he viewed (or perhaps rationalized ) the Tim Burton era Batman flicks. In any case, it really does help me enjoy them more. I can even sit through watching the last two all the way now.Batman (1989): "BATMAN is the Bob Kane/Bill Finger of Batman of 1939." Batman Returns: "The second BATMAN film was - in my estimation - the Batman of the 1990s. Almost souless, very dark, almost vampiric." Batman Forever: "...no question about it was the Dick Sprang, Batman and Robin, Bill Finger-written stories of the 40s and 50s. Batman and Robin jumping across the keys of giant typewriters and having this amazing, grotesque rouges gallery of supervillains." Batman and Robin: "The 1960s Batman - “Pow, Zap, and Wham.” Fortunately or unfortunately - fortunately for those who only know the 60s TV show - and unfortunately for you and me - BATMAN AND ROBIN was the Batman of the mid-60s." |

![]() | Re: Most overrated and underrated comic book movies I watched Dick Tracy last night and I really enjoyed it. I have heard that Beatty made a 135 minute cut, but that dang Katzenberg asked him to cut it down. Some people say it is because the extra footage would have gotten it a PG-13 rating. This film would be rated PG-13 today anyway. I don't understand why Disney wanted a PG cut, when they released the film under the Touchstone label. I really hope the 135 minute cut gets released on Blu-ray. Dick Tracy could really get a cult following now after the success of Sin City, which is similar in terms of art direction and style.

You have to consider that at a time, it was going to be released under the Walt Disney label much like Rocketeer did. But it grew too dark, sexy, and wow I loved it. It got moved to the other label with a PG rating. DICK TRACY is one of those movies I just love watching and I really do hope for a extended cut or at least a special edition. I've had chances to ask Warren Beatty but just never was able to seal the deal and get to him.

![]() | Re: Most overrated and underrated comic book movies I agree with GhostHost2 that Superman Returns and Batman Returns (Keaton/Burton) are very underrated. Superman did not please the fanboys because it was, in Bryan Singer's own words, "a chick flick." But it was a darn good chick flick. Batman Returns is the best of the pre-Nolan takes on the franchise, much better than the 1st Batman which I felt was overly long and poorly edited with amateur dialogue. I also thought The Shadow with Alec Baldwin was good. I think I'm about the only one who thinks that. I also realize I'm in the minority on this one, but I've always preferred X-Men to X-Men 2. I thought the pacing of the sequel's last hour was a bit labored. |
