Most overrated and underrated comic book movies

To you, what are the most overrated and underrated comic book movies?

Overrated:

Spider-man 2-Spider-man 1 got a little too sappy for it's own good, Spider-man 2 had an overkill of sappiness. It only got far, far worse with Spider-man 3 (worst comic book movie ever IMO). Spider-man 2 is a decent film, but I list it here, because a lot of people love it.

What I didn't like about SM2, major spoilers:

Doc Ock should have never turned good. Why did they use the same Mary Jane in peril plot as last time? Peter stopping the wedding and him revealing to Mary Jane that he was Spider-man was sappiness overkill (along with Doc Ock turning good)

Spider-man 3- Yeah, a lot of people hate it, but it is still overrated, some how it manages to have a 6.1 on IMDB. I could list everything I hated about it, but it would take hours.

V for Vendetta-This was actually a good movie, but it isn't great like many people claim.

Underated:

Superman Returns-Many people trash this film, but I love it. It isn't perfect, but it works as a fitting return for Superman. Now bring on Superman:Man of Steel, which if it ever starts filming will hopefully be perfect.

Batman Returns-Tied with Begins for the best Batman movie. This isn't the most accurate adaption, but even Begins wasn't 100% accurate. I absolutely love this films. Danny Devito and Michelle Pfeiffer deserved Oscar nods at the very least. Christopher Walken is fantastic too. Danny Elfman gives one of his very best scores. The art direction is possibly Tim Burton's best. The sets are fantastic. The Penguin is actually a far more interesting character than he is in the comics. Catwoman (in this film) is one of the great morally ambigious characters in cinema. This film is dark, surreal, dreamlike, tragic, and almost poetic. I actually remember seeing this film in the theatre when I was 6 years old, it's one of the few movies from my very young youth that made a lasting impression. This is perhaps the darkest and most grown-up comic book film, that wasn't rated R.

I dont' know how Batman Begins is underrated. It was a boxoffice smash and there's a huge sequel to it coming out soon. It was also critically acclaimed and Mattel has made action figures from that movie and the next.

I really can't think of too many overrated flicks off the top of my head. Superman II (the original Richard Lester release) is the only one that comes to mind right now.

For underrated I agree with all but Daredevil on Coheteboy's list, with Dick Tracy perhaps being a bit of stretch to include, but it gets bonus points from me for the creative look Warren Beatty went with.

muah ha ha. Well you see.. Daredevil got no love from the majority of audience goers. Batman Returns was generally loved, so I don't really see that as underrated. I see it as overrated.

Daredevil was an actual solid film but if someone even asks about Marvel Comic book movies, I guarantee you that most people will actually forget that Daredevil was even made. A lot of people even hate it. I don't really know why. I thought it was really well done and captured the character accurately. And no sequel for Daredevil. But there's already another Hulk, 3 Spider-Man, 3 X-Men, 2 Fantastic Fours, a 2nd Punisher, 3 Blades, etc etc.

...i guess you can count Elektra as a spinoff. Yikes. Now that was bad.

I totally agree with the middle two. Amazing movies!!! The outer two are good films as well, but the middle two are classic.

Batman Returns didn't do nearly as good Box Office numbers as Batman (1989) did. Plus Batman Returns only has a 6.8 on IMDB. I have never seen Daredevil (and have no great desire to) or Road to Perdition (which I may check out some time). I haven't seen Dick Tracy or the Rocketeer since I was very little, so I can't remember enough about them.

Haha, see my point? You haven't seen two of the films I listed and the other two not since you were tiny. Underrated!

XMen #1 I'm sorry but I can't watch it anymore. #2 was sooooo much better and was visually just better.

All 3 Spiderman movies

Underrated:

The Phantom (I love this movie, and I REALLY wish it would have done better, I would have liked to see a sequel)
Batman Forever (This is the one with Val Kilmer, I did actually like this one)
Elektra (WAY better than Daredevil)

And Coheteboy, I gotta disagree about Daredevil. I thought it sucked. Maybe it's just because Ben Affleck was in it.

X Men served it's purpose.

Just think. if it hadn't done so well, we wouldn't have all the new comic movies coming out. it was a dead genre..but then X Men and blammo! movies!

Besides, I'll watch anything with Wolverine in it....especially Hugh Jackman as Wolverine....

Okay it served a purpose, it introduced the world to Hugh Jackman, but compared to #2....I mean if you look at it compared to the superhero movies that followed.

Although Josh Schwartz (who is dreamy for a writer) is writing the 4th one.
