From what my usher friends have told me, none of the watches were thrown out during any of the shows, but most of them will end up in the trash as a few watches we were giving out already had dead batteries or broken parts.

And if you spill your movie-size soda on it? You can forget about it! The watch will be dead within seconds thanks to the non-water-proof construction.
Its a clever subliminal Disney co plot to counteract the message of the film, I saw the watch for the trap it was and didnt take one for us.

Its like saying "candy is bad for you", and then here have some free candy that is really bad for you.... most will take the candy

More and more corporations create and market products that are less and less truly needed or useful and more and more just junk that we can do without but we are made to think we have to have them by appealing to our "buy" instinct.

There are neurotransmitters in the brain that regulate the desire to "buy" or collect things, it is an evolutionary part of the hunter gatherer instinct, which is stronger in females, as they did most of the gathering and men the hunting in prehistoric times.

The films message speaks for our high brain functions, the watch to our baser instincts.

Evil plot.

And all the watch's that are not given out as mentioned here? Are they going into a landfill too? you bet.

remember to only send virtual Chrismahanukwanzaa card via the internet! lol

I got the Wall-E soundtrack, but I downloaded the tracks I really liked online for less $'s and NO PHYSICAL DISC OR PACKAGING INVOLVED. Cant wait till all movies can be downloaded instead of buy the DVD and all its packaging and wrapping.

Send virtual gifts like online music or audiobooks.

(yet when you get the virtual versions there is this nagging little voice in the back of your mind that says "I still want to hold it in my hand and see its bright shiny surface and put it on my self with all my other prized possessions to collect dust till I eventually throw it in the garbage!) lol

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

Interestingly enough, on ebgames.com, they are having a Wall-E sweepstakes. The interesting part? One of the prizes are tickets to Six Flags. What the heck?

As for the movie, simply amazing. I think I have to say Ratatouille is still my favorite Pixar movie, but I absolutely LOVED this movie. Wall-E is, hands down, my favorite Pixar character, however. I don't even know what to say about this movie, but it was amazing. The "message" definitely took the backseat to Wall-E and EVE's romance the whole time, though.

As for the other Wall-E robots, here's my theory: BnL dropped a ton of them on the planet to clean up. We know this. Maybe they could all repair themselves, maybe they couldn't. But think about it this way: Wall-E was able to repair himself by essentially cannibalizing broken bots. The other Wall-E robots wouldn't have had as many bots to cannibalize. On top of that, we don't even know if Wall-E is truly the last of his kind other than the PREVIEWS saying that. Frankly, I'm not overly concerned about whether or not he's the last one on the planet. That's largely irrelevant to the plot. The only time that even becomes pertinent is if you start wondering and want to know why we don't see Wall-E bots zooming around all over the place.

I still can't get over how well Stanton and the animators were able to breathe life and emotion into Wall-E and EVE. Parts of this movie between them were simply heartwrenching. Kudos to Pixar for creating a lovable character for teenagers/adults without it needing to be cute and cuddly looking.

Although it's another subject, the short "Presto" was amazing. But I was having a discussion with my girlfriend
Spoiler
about whether or not the non-top-hat hat was Yen Sid's hat from Fantasia. She said it looked similar, but it was more purple-y than blue. I must say I agree with her.

Interestingly enough, the previews I saw weren't all CGI movies. There was Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D, Beverly Hills Chihuahua (ugh...kill me), Madasgar: Escape 2 Africa, Bolt, and Meet Dave. Well, I suppose those are all CGI movies...nevermind. Bolt looks pretty good, but I really wanted to see a trailer for Up instead. Based on the somewhat limited synopsis, I might finally be able to stop adding Pixar's most recent to my top three or two favorite Pixar movies.

EDIT: As for the watches/marketing of the movie and its characters and the supposed contradiction to the movie, perhaps this is why the entire thing ends with the BnL logo (like...after the credits). After all, moviegoers could just shrug off the message and tell themselves that it could never happen, but the point of the movie is that it's already happening, but it may not be too late to stop it. Speaking of the credits, stay for them. You get some post-ending storytelling and then after that, you're treated to a pixellated retelling of the movie.

So let me get this straight they make a message movie about over consumerism then make tons of $'s off it by selling allot of merchandise via over consumerism?

So by having the Wall-E toys be over packaged as usual but putting the Buy n Large BnL logo on them as if it is BnL thats selling the over packaged toys adding to over consumerism, Disney is really the real BnL, BnL is really Disney?

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

I voted for "2 stars" in the poll. I thought the movie was good, but far from great. I can't explain why I didn't love it. It was just missing something, but I don't know what. I asked my wife what she thought about it and she said it was very boring and my 5 year old appeared bored also. My 5 year old said he liked the movie and his favorite part was the end credits. (Hahahaha, although he didn't mean that in a put down sort of way) He loved all the characters doing things during the credits. He laughed and enjoyed himself more during the end credits than the entire movie.

Oh well, I guess I'll be in the minority on this movie. I loved the characters of Wall-E and Eve, but for me, the movie will be down towards the bottom of my Pixar list.

That's not really any different than trailers for just about any other pixar movie. Incredibles... the whole trying to get his belt on? Wasn't in the movie at all. Pixar is good at creating little vignettes that showcase the character but have nothing to do with the movie more or less. They get you to think the idea is cool and come see the movie without giving away any of the movie. I'm sure we've all seen movies where the trailer gave away ALL the good bits and you felt cheated. I know I have. I love that Pixar keeps things secret.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

Does anybody know how this story was assembled?

Is it possible that the first half of the move that highlights Wall-E and Eve was contributed by Joe Ranft, and the remainder of the movie on board the Axiom was done after his death?

For all the Disney Stores that have been through heck this spring, I hope all the positive reviews turn in to good merchandise and high sales, but...........

I was thoroughly disappointed. It's somewhere between 'Home on the Range' and 'Chicken Little' on my Disney meter. Shoot, I liked all the other Pixar movies 10 times better than this one. It was 'cute'. I voted 2 stars as well.

Part of me felt like they included this as much as a test for several slated Pixar projects that include live human actors alongside computer generated characters such as John Carter of Mars.

I like the transition from the live action and how it morphed into the humans of 700 years from now.

Pixar short before the movie was HYSTERICAL... and sadly was the highlight of the whole evening for me.
I guess I didn't get the invite to the press conference where John Lasserter got up on mic and claimed that this was the most inventive film ever and we stole nothing from previous sci-fi films.

Do you happen to work for the Disney Stores? How is Wall-E being merchandised?

Cars was a natural money maker for toys, but I am awfully curious how they are going to do the merchandise line for a mobile trash compactor. Eve would make a swell egg-timer.
