Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

To say that I am excited about this film is an understatement! They had a Wall-E day at the studio today with animators, games etc. The toys are really cool too. I got my Wall-E and Eve action figures. It's good to hear that everyone loves this as much as past films. The Incredibles and Toy Story are two of my favorite gilms of all time. I can't wait for this one!

Did anyone else get a free Wall-E watch when they went to the movie?

My son and Niece both got the free WallE blue watch. I thought that it was a really nice perk.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

I was really excited for the film for about 10 months and it didn't disappoint. The plot was well-thought-out and the visuals were stunning, and the film shone even without dialogue. However, I found that this film was much darker than pas Pixar films and it offered little for the little ones to grasp, other than some cute lines and the imagery. Dark isn't always bad, mind you, I really enjoyed the film, but it isn't of the same cloth as the majority of the other Pixar wonders.
The message of the film is rather obvious and will go over kids' heads, that of the negativity of consumerism and the drawbacks to having the daily activity of a rock. This message struck a chord with me and I truly felt like it had proven a point by shoving all of stereotyped America's bad habits back in our faces with a bit of exaggeration to give it the bad medicinal taste you notice and remember for a long while. I was lucky enough to see the film with a group of intellectuals, and at an after-hours diner we debated if the message would change anyone's mind or not. One said a film cannot change the world, another said change is already on the rise, I said that a film such as this will simply make people think a little more and perhaps educate some children, and another still said that the film will be well-received as the masses ignore the obvious sub-plot and focus only on the story of two robots.
To sum up, I will simply say that this film is much, much more than just a futuristic love story.

Too funny! - i was just thinking i need to see this again - to watch it for details. i missed a lot of details in Wall-E's 'home' when i was involved with the story. Now that I know the story - I can watch it again for the creativity. I hope you enjoyed it - them.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

We saw it this afternoon. Overall, it was a pretty good movie. Perhaps not on a par with some of their other productions we've seen, but still quite good. It's not an uproariously funny movie, in fact, there are very few out and out laughs (which is out of character for their previous films).

The animation is indeed superb, the best I've ever seen, and the job they did on Wall-E himself was spectacular. I loved the nod to Alien in the music, and everything else they borrowed from here and there.

I do wish we had seen more of and learned more about the rest of the "malfunctioning" robots who proved so important to the end of the plot. They seemed to be overlooked in the development, and used more like a device for the story. Which would have been fine had they not been imbued with so much character and individuality.

And soon they will change,
But tonight Hollywood has never seemed so strange,
Now mother's pray it'll last a long time.

I want to roll around like a kid in the snow,

Just let me take flight,
Dressed in red, through the night,
On a great big sled.

I want to wish you merry Christmas,
Ho Ho Ho.

Now they boys are all grown up,
And their working their fingers to the bone,
They go around chasing them girls on the weekend,
You know they still can't be alone,
I've been racking my brain,

I wonder what this night will bring.

But to their credit they kept it right on target and didnt make a joke out of it.

Is it a message people need ? YES

Do they want it in a "fun" summer family film? maybe not

It IS NOT a fun frolic of fluffiness like past films also how do you market products like plush toys and tshirts for a film about the evils of run away consumerism?
Absolutely

10.0

One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. I dont care if the B story bogged down at the end, I dont care if the villain was a rip off of a certain other science fiction movie (even if 2001 is one of my favorite films as well). I dont care.

It was beautiful, and personally, its one of my favorite films of all time even after seeing it only once. Definitely my favorite Pixar film by far and that also means my favorite animated movie of all time. Period.

VERY cute movie! My best friend and I saw it today and we both thought it was really sweet. I love the expressions you can get from 2 robotic characters! The look in the eye, or a little noise from them. Just adorable.

REALLY loved the Pixar short before the movie. That was hilarious. Enjoyed it as much as the movie, to be honest.

Really recommend it. I think it's well worth seeing. (And, we got the bargain matinee price too and snuck in our turkey and avocado sandwiches because we saw the 11:30 showing.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

I have to be perfectly honest, and I know I will get jumped for saying this. Wall E is a basic ripoff of most major Sci-Fi movies from within the last 2 decades. Sorry... had to be said. It is one thing to "bowrrow" elements of Hal and Johnny 5, and quite another to make your character parallel them in multiple ways! The whole "Earth is trashed" message has been overdone on many many occasions and the overweight lazy people dates back to the origins of the Sci Fi genre itself. Instead of bringing something new to the table, Wall E stole the feast and called it it's own.

Pixar short before the movie was HYSTERICAL... and sadly was the highlight of the whole evening for me.
