Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

According to boxofficemojo.com it made $23 million its opening day. I think it is safe to say that it will get about $55 million its opening weekend. I think that is great considering Ratatouille got $47 million(since Finding Nemo came out Pixars opening weekends have been going down, so it will be great to see it go back up).

Just thought you would like to know

About the choice of the hello dolly music:

I highly doubt that is the reason for the choice and I have never heard it on main st

It was most likely a personal choice (lassetter?) but the reason for the choice was to play something very very human, full of joy and hope for a better tomorrow ironcally from the early 1900's or turn of the 20th century! to really show the contrast and sadness at how humans squandered the world and what was lost it makes the playing of the song very sad in that setting of a ruined earth and ironic that a artificial life form a trash compactor plays it as his theme song while working compacting trash.......

here now at the turn of the 21st century if you look at the numbers and I mean the solid facts of how much more we consume each day and how many more people there are every day this vision of the future is right on target and in this century, the date in the film for evacuation of earth is 2100 and its pretty clear only 10,000 or less make on board that ship and leave...........

There is an ad that Wall-E passes where it discusses space cruisers, the largest and grandest being Axiom. My guess would be that, like Buy 'N Large's Wall-E robots that failed on Earth years ago, the other space cruisers met a similar fate, leaving only Axiom cruising space on its own.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

I thought it was on of Pixar's best. Toy Story will always be my favorite as I think it changed the world of animation but Wall-E came pretty close. I didn't have any problems with the storyline although the political parts of the movie were really obvious.

It was funny and thoughtful. Considering most of the movie had absolutely no dialogue didn't bother me in the least. The way they presented the movie told it all for you and that's what mattered.

Pixar went above and beyond with this movie adding a ton of details that didn't need to be there yet still was which made it all the better.

The pre-show was fantastic! I think Pixar's best to date.

In the movie's soundtrack booklet, the director mentions how Hello, Dolly! was always a part of the story in his mind and I think you got why it is. It's a very old fashioned musical (taking place in 1890 and being written in the early 60's) and the contrast between it and a post apocalyptic world has a very strong affect. It's bright and happy, and reflects Wall-E's own personality. It's also a musical about falling in love, at first sight no less, so it works well as a tool to teach Wall-E about romance and how it makes people feel. Main Street has nothing to do with this film.

And yes excerpts of those two songs are included on the CD.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

I love that Hello, Dolly! was such an integral part of the film. I think it was a wonderful choice and it makes perfect sense to me.

In my opinion, this is the best Pixar film ever released, and I'd vote it as best picture of the year...total Oscar material.

I don't feel the film was a rip-off of other sci-fi films...more of a tribute to them, making it a story for the here and now, and I'd say releasing it to a more general audience (which I think was very important).

Messages aside, the heart of this film is the love story. Everything else, fat humans included, are necessary parts for the story to unfold. WALL-E and EVE could not exists if it weren't for those not-so-happy other factors. But really, the film never depicts the humans as bad people per say (except maybe those of BnL), just distracted and lazy. But they all say they want to actually do something...that's the first thing WALL-E overhears one of the passengers say.

I wondered how the heck they would end the movie on an upbeat note, and they actually managed to do it. The ending/credits were very clever and gave a hopeful outlook for the future. We control our own destinies; it's the choices we make that determine our future.

There is always hope, and that hope comes from the beauty of love.

God forbid Pixar tries something new and makes the audience think and feel rather than shove the screen with a bunch of colorful characters and watch them fall down the stairs while making references to 80s pop songs.

I feel bad for people who couldn't appreciate this film because they were too busy waiting for Buzz and Woody to come out rather than not have their questions answered and be in complete awe of the film.

And God forbid people to have different tastes and interests. I loved WALL-E but let's not sit here and look down on those who didn't like it. This is a VERY different movie than most audiences will be expecting and that does have an effect while watching a movie.

What makes Pixar movies so great is that repeat viewings ALWAYS improve my opinion on them. When I saw CARS I thought it was pretty boring but had its moments. The more I watched it the more I loved it.

Give people a chance to think about the movie, maybe see it again, and if they still don't agree, then that's their right to do so. Just be glad that you have a movie you love and that the majority agrees.

I know it didn't but I seriously had the Main Street version in my head for the rest of the day because that's all I heard when they played that song.

I enjoyed it very much. I don't think it is my favorite Pixar, but I loved it. Wall E and Eve were both such wonderful characters.

I am jealous of the people who saw the Pizza Planet truck, I missed it!

As a Mac computer fan, I loved that Wall E made the Mac starting up sound sound when his solar charge was complete. It made me giggle every time.

The Pizza Planet truck is a 'blink and you'll miss it' moment near the beginning.

And I use both Mac and PCs but enjoyed the mac start up sound as well. But I'll let Futurama have the honor of doing it first.

So the Pizza Planet truck was in most Pixar movies right? Not all?

-Toy Story -- Woody & Buzz hop on at the Gas Station
-A Bug's Life -- Seen in background as bug goes towards the light.
-Toy Story 2 -- Hijacked by toys to go to the airport
-Monsters Inc. -- In the swamp where Randall gets sent to.

And then Finding Nemo? Incredibles? Ratatouille? I don't remember if these had a pizza planet truck.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

In Finding Nemo the Pizza Planet truck drives by the dentist's window. The top is what is mostly seen

In Ratatouille the Pizza Planet truck drives over one of the bridges in Paris. It is really small.

In Wall-E, "Directive A-113" is a reference to the classroom A113 at CalArts. It is a joke that has been used many times by animation alumni of CalArts. Wikipedia has more information on the joke.

I laughed completely alone in the theater when Wall-E recharged for the first time. Seems natural that the hero of a film made by a company formerly owned by Steve Jobs would run on Mac OS. So obviously Buy 'N Larger bought out Apple and used them to take down Microsoft.
