Me too. I laughed loudly, and then realized I was the only one. Glad someone else thought that was funny.

I couldn't believe how huge that reference is in this film! I'm an animation student at CalArts now and my classmates all commented on how the reference was so huge the general audience hopefully wasn't look for some other meaning in that.

On a side note, A-113 no longer houses any portion of the animation department. "The Palace" is essentially the new A-113 at CalArts.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

Well I saw it today, and I have to say it's one of Pixar's best.

I love the darker tone of the film, I love how they were able to pull off such emotion from the robots with little to no dialogue, I can pretty much go on and on how much I loved this film.

On a final note, I pretty much agree with my friends that we will never get those who don't like this film, find it boring etc.

Oh yes, one more thing...it should be noted the short "Presto" is an absolute gem. I really haven't laughed so hard since "For the Birds."

I loved this one! I thought it was visually stunning and a great story.

I also chuckled at the Mac chime. The other Mac connection is that Jonathan Ive, a designer at Apple, helped with EVE's design.

We just do not know that. Axiom was not the first ship built, the ad featured several ships, and no mention is made of what happened between 2075, when Axiom departed, and when Earth was finally abandoned in 2110. Even then, the ship holding the top brass of Buy 'N Large is never shown to be contacted or referenced, its demise may be supposed.

Stop confusing clever references that dont say "THIS IS FROM 2001" with stealing .
Clever references... clever references... Autopilot was Hal, right down to the attempt to kill the entire crew and needing to be "turned off". That's not even counting the detached politeness that made Hal famous to begin with. Wall-E had multiple rips on Johnny 5 including smashing a bug, loving music/dance, complete innocence, smashed battery, smashed eye (which looked identical I might add), ability to repair himself, loss of memory and then sudden attitude due to a "short circuit". Wall-E was a shorter, pudgier Johnny 5 complete with the same track design. Then we could go with the various Star Wars references including the Escape Pod and the Garbage Chute, or the whole docking procedure, I can keep going if you would like... And as for the whole "humans destroying the earth" Planet of the Apes did it best with their Statue of Liberty shot... but it's been done over, and over, and over, and over... humans destroy earth and earth is a wasteland we get it! Everything from Terminator to WaterWorld had us doing something that made good Earth become bad! Clever is not usually Obvious! Spaceballs was clever, Shreik was clever... Wall-E was plagiarism at it's finest. If this wasn't a Pixar film people would likely be tearing it apart specifically for that reason.

Wall-E brought amazing advances in cinematography and CGI annimation, as does any new cutting edge CGI flick... but that is where the creativity stopped for me.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

First off, loved the film. Terrific movie, and an instant Pixar classic. Lots of sci-fi INSPIRATION (i.e. not a ripoff) and overall Pixar goodiness!

Second, I just remember this Jim Hill article from way back in Feb '07 when the film was just announced. It's scarily accurate: http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hi...day-again.aspx

And who says he has bad sources?!...

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

If you want to see the future see Wall-E

Wall-E is a Story about a Post Apocalyptic future told in classic sci fi cautionary style wrapped in a sweet love story between two Artificial Intelligent robots.

The few (thousands) remaining humans are ineffectual oblivious immobile blobs catered to by automated systems.

The problems of overpopulation and depletion of resources is something I am always curious about, I already knew quite a bit about it but seeing Wall-E inspired me to look at the actual hard core facts on the subject and I found that the film has it nailed.

Based on the current Earths carrying capacity (amount of humans the earth resources can support) and that this carrying capacity is finite and is decreasing over time, this decreases even more with climate change.

Add the latest facts on population growth and the percentage of resources humans consume which is on the rise exponentially (mostly due to us using China as cheap labor to produce less expensive products resulting in their lifestyle improving and therefore consuming more resources).

Based on the best scientific facts this is what I found:

1. The human population increase combined with increased consumption of resources will reach the peak capacity of the earth to support us around 2030 - 2035.

Interestingly given the average age of the children taken to see pixar films they will reach middle age by this time....

2. This will result in massive loss of human life and even faster depletion of resources till in 2100 we will see a world just like depicted in the film.

Sobering, yes. Is there anything we can do about it? Not really , no... even if we somehow got the whole world to drastically reduce reproduction AND to live as "Green" a lifestyle as possible it wouldnt stop it maybe slow it a bit but then what are the odds we could get any portion of the worlds population to do any of these things? Slim to none based on history...

The only thing that might save the situation is some not as yet developed nanotechnology capable of re-arranging matter but even then eventually run away overpopulation will catch up anyway...

If you want to see the future see Wall-E

if you do the math....

lets assume Axiom holds around 10,000 people (this based on the end scene where everyone is assembled on the Lido Deck its most likely less)

to just carry only 1 billion people you would need 100,000 Axiom class vessels.....

I may be mistaken but I dont think humans have ever built any where near 100,000 vessels of any kind with even a fraction of that carrying capacity and that would only "rescue" 1 billion people..... what about the other 9 billion??

Absolutely bottom of the list of favorite Pixar movie for me. And I'm glad to read that people are speaking up about it's lack of a moral in other chats and in the news. Humans destroyed the planet due to corporate greed and materialism, and I'm supposed to be paying attention to the robots falling in love? Not bloody likely!
