Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

I got to see the movie twice with to different crowds (the second one included Nicole Kidman AND her hubby Keith Urban! Be jelous), and I enjoyed the movie on so many levels each time. It is definately the Pixar Masterpiece I've been waiting for.

Going into this movie thinking it will be another classic Pixar animation film is setting yourself up for a trap. They push the idea of what an animated film could be to an entirely new level. One I hope wins them many awards this season.

Two really interesting things stuck out a lot about the movie. The first being their evolution of the aesthetics of humans to give the viewer a logical flow into believing the fat cartoonish humans came from the live action actors and images. I thought that was very nicely done, even if their cop-out excuse was about "bone loss."

The second thing that I will no doubt reflect on is the one hero line from the Captain during the climax of the film.
Spoiler
"I don't want to survive! I want to LIVE!"
Despite being a love story first, this line continues to leave me dumb struck every time I think about it. Never in any of the Pixar films have a come across a line so powerful and yet so simple.

I'll hopefully see it several more times to come in the future, each with a different crowd. This movie is one of those movies you want to be in a sold out theatre; the reaction from the other people around you just bring the experiance to a classic level.

By the way, did anyone else see the People Mover track on the Axiom?

In relationship to Presto: I already committed myself to buying Vol. 2 of the Pixar Shorts, and if they are going to start it with this short, I couldn't have been more proud. I especially loved the retro Walt Disney Presents logo from WAY back in the day that they used.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

For the first 20 minutes I was blown away by the art direction, astonished by the animation, captivated by the lead character's heart... and then spent the rest of the picture groaning at being hammered over the head by message, message, message, message, message and more message.

After getting home and reading the "message? what message? I don't do message movies" interview with Stanton (http://micechat.com/forums/showthrea...com-99139.html), I just went, "you gotta be kidding."

I'd have to agree with Sue's review and Katella Gate's comment on her review, as well as techskip's posts in this thread.

It'll doubtless be an enormous hit. A phenomenon. It'll make hundreds of millions in theaters, hundreds of millions more on DVD, and billions in sales of plastic-packaged Chinese-made WALL-E merch, most of which will be lead free.

But to me, the most entertaining part of the WALL-E phenomenon is yet to come: watching the mega-corps who made it, distributed it and market its merch, twist in the wind to dodge its message. (It's started already -- http://www.o-meon.com/pages/business..._Footprint.htm)

Artistic self importance? Directorial smugness? Audience sucker punches? Corporate hypocrisy? Nah.

Not that's worth arguing about, anyway... nor that'll make any difference to the bottom line.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

A wonderful, magnificent, thought-provoking, beautiful movie.

Definitely Pixar's best. It has some pretty strong messages of where we could be headed.

One of the biggest ironies; the movie's message is about the amount of consumerism and its effects. Now here is the irony. I don't know if this was available in the states or if it was just here in Canada, but with every child's admission you got a free watch this opening weekend. Well after seeing the quality of the watch and walking out of the theater, I wondered: why give out a literal piece of garbage, probably made in China after subjecting kids and adults to a movie showing what could happen to us in the future? All the watch is is a rubber wrist band with a little digital display, but it's very very poorly constructed and won't exactly last that long. How many people will actually enjoy it? And how many will toss it out and have it end up in the landfill? Was it really worth spending money on wasting the amount of energy into the production of this piece of trash (the watch, not the movie )? I don't think so.

I loved the cameo appearance by Sputnik. And I started to laugh when WALL*E rolled up to the old refrigerator, I was thinking that Indiana was going to roll out of it.

Probably te best animated movie this year. One of the best sci-fi movies in a long time. This movie was a true masterpiece, and I hope to go see it again. "5 Stars" "Two-thumbs way up" "A+"

PS: I think Sue Kruse needs to see it again and rethink what she wrote in her review, and that goes for the very few that did not enjoy it. Be awake while seeing it again and soak in the message (yes, that goes for you too Mr Wiggins)

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

Someone asked about the Dust Storms, and many automatically cited the probes as being the cause. The movie made it very clear that the probes were searching for plants. 2 things large plants do very well; hold down soil, and create a wind break. In the most simplest terms, the worst sandstorms are those over large expanses of nothingness where there is nothing to keep the soil down (sand in most cases) or calm and break up the winds. I watched several in Kuwait... to this day they terrify me and amaze me all in one breath. I was under the impression such weather systems frequent Mars, and that these storms have actually helped the rovers by "cleaning" their solar panels.

As I said I personally did not like the movie, but the kids did, and for me it is a kid's movie and is marketed as a kids movie so in that respect it is a success. I still feel that the "inspired" bordered on plagiarism and I am certain that if I submitted a paper so heavily "inspired" I would likely find myself on a disciplinary board.

Nah, BnL OS - BnL bought Microsoft and Apple, I'm sure.

I wish there was some BnL stickers for sale. Would love to stick them on all my 'un-branded' objects.

Did anyone notice the 'green' irony on the 'future earth'? Lamposts powered by the sun, buildings with solar panels on the side.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

For those interested, the soundtrack is apparently made from 100% recycled material for the packaging and 30% recycled for the booklet. I guess it's the one piece of merchandise that supports one of the messages in the film. Doubt the action figures and plushes do.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Wonderful.

Boy solo said huge windstorms would be from the lack of water and trees... whether that's true or not I do not know.

I first thought the message was really overdone, but the captain's reactions were pretty realistic, I thought. Plus that was like 15 minutes of the damn movie.

Re: Wall-E (MiceChat Reviews)

well guys I just came home from the movies and I thought the movie was kinda boring for the first 35 or 40 mins. however in the end it turned out to be a decent movie. its a good movie, I wish they would add more dialouge to the robot characters.

Why did the humans on the ship not know that there was a pool? How were there babies when it seemed like all the humans were all so self-involved and I did not see any couples until the two that met Wall-E took off their stereo sets?

Do I expect answers for these questions, Nope. I'll just have to watch the movie again to see if I can figure it out. IMO Toy Story was a much better movie but Wall-E was entertaining.
That's how I felt at the beginning of the movie. the first 40 mins kinda bored me but it picked up. Im gonna try to see it again myself.

Agreed with your statements there pratt 55.

On a final note, I pretty much agree with my friends that we will never get those who don't like this film, find it boring etc.

Oh yes, one more thing...it should be noted the short "Presto" is an absolute gem. I really haven't laughed so hard since "For the Birds."

I loved the presto mini show. I thought the rabbit was just awesome.
