Re: 'Pinocchio' on Blu-ray 3/10/09

Film resolution is significantly higher than any current video format, so the better the video formats get the more detail will be seen from an original film master, even if the film is 70 years old.

That said, I don't think most people really care to get more detail from thier movies at home. It's all about the money. Beta was better than VHS, but VHS won that format war because it was cheaper.
DVD is the current defatco video format, and will be for a long time, until you have dollar blue ray bins at Wal Mart.

After watching Sleeping Beauty, I am looking forward to Pinocchio on Blu-ray.

I may have to buy this title again...dang. At least it's been 10 years since it was out on DVD (unlike Sleeping Beauty), and the previous DVD was the single disc standard issue (Unlike Sleeping Beauty). The only concern will be the aspect ratio. It's a 1:33 to 1 presentation. I hope the Blue Ray/DVD isn't a full screen transfer, and by that I mean. I hope it's picture boxed into the 1:85 frame, with animorphic compression, so that the image is still it's 1:33, but reversed letterboxed on a wide screen TV.

There is no such thing as non-amamorphic Blu-ray. All academy ratio films released to blu are pillarboxed (black bars on the side as there should be for these kinds of movies). Also technically it's a 1.78:1 frame, 1.85:1 films do have very slight letterboxing done to them on 16:9 displays but due to over scan on most Tvs it's never noticed.

Since I never replaced my VHS with DVD, I'll buy this Blu for sure.

I see it fits the current DVD layout, Big head on top, title in the middle, and action scene on the lower third.
