Disney star to partner with XYZ on films

Selena Gomez has formed July Moon Prods. and has partnered with XYZ Films to finance the development of at least two films for the Disney tween star to topline and produce.

Deal is comparable to a first-look studio deal that allows Gomez to option articles, hire screenwriters and tie additional talent to packages that can then be shopped to studios.

In August, XYZ inked a similar deal with Time Inc. and management-production company the Collective to finance the development of the print media giant's content for the bigscreen. As part of the July Moon-XYZ deal, Gomez will have the ability to cherry-pick projects from the vast Time Inc. library, which includes Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune and Life.

Gomez, who recently turned 16, boasts a massive teen girl fanbase as the star of Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place."

Look what happened, or didn't happen to Hilary Duff, when she left, and that was even after she had spent a little more time with Disney. . .

Selena doesn't have near the exposure, nor the popularity that Hilary had, when Hilary broke things off with Disney.

The article doesn't mention anything about her leaving Disney. She's probably contractually-bound to the series for a few more seasons.

This is a development deal, they actually have to come up with something to sell to a studio, possibly Disney, to produce and distribute.

Hilary Duff seems to have worked continually in both music and film, as well scoring lucrative endorsement deals, since concluding 'Lizzie McGuire'.
There are alot of other folks out there that could use the career concern.

Selena Gomez Reveals Plans For 'Wizards Of Waverly Place' Movie

Actress also begs celebrity crush Shia LaBeouf, 'Please come on my show!'

Selena Gomez has revealed that there are plans in the works to turn her popular Disney series, "Wizards of Waverly Place" — about a New York City family whose kids have magical powers — into a movie.

"Yes! We actually want to shoot it here in New York," she told MTV News. Gomez also talked a little bit about what she thinks might happen in the film, saying, "I think it would have to be that our secret is about to be exposed."

But until her big-screen dreams come true, Gomez is hard at work on the series. "I think that my fans will expect more magic and crazy stuff going on," she said of the show's ongoing second season. "I think you see Alex more mature this season."

Gomez excitedly revealed the one big way that her character is growing up and finding herself. "She gets her first boyfriend," she said. "His name is Daniel, and he's just this really sweet guy who, I honestly think, has a lot of potential. I think he's going to do great." She added, "No, [he doesn't know our secret] yet."

But if Gomez could have her way, her big celebrity crush Shia LaBeouf would make a cameo in either the TV show or the movie. "You'd think that as much as I promote it [he'd be coming on]," she joked. "I'm, like, begging, but it's not happening. I know I'm a nerd! Please, Shia, come on my show!"

I didn't say she was leaving the series, BUT I did ask if her partnering with XYZ films would hurt her relationship with Disney.

And yes, with all Disney series, they want to go at least 60 episodes, for sydication reasons. But that does mean that Disney has to place Selena in the 2nd or 3rd season of Wizards. If Selena is going off on her own, and doing some things that her contract doesn't allow, Disney could break things off with her.

The reason I brought up Hilary Duf, is because there were some proposed additional Disney projects, such as a 2nd Disney Series, perhaps additional movies, and of course, her musical career would have been much more highly promoted by Disney. But Hilary wanted more than Disney was willing to pay her. Looking back, Hilary likely would have had a longer time in the limelight, in both acting and singing, if she would have extended her agreement with Disney.

With Selena, she's just barely started working with Disney. She just needs to be careful that she doesn't bite the hand that feeds her. If she's smart businesswise, it could work out for her. But if not, it could be a setback for her.
