That's as close to being an acting nominee Stiller will ever get. I was very surprised to see that the Academy would sink to that cheap laugh especially on a night where they honored & celebrated so many other past winners. Guess former nominees don't count.

His schtick seemed even less funny considering a similar bit had already been done on 'Saturday Night Live' a week ago. Maybe it was funnier than his performance in 'The Heartbreak Kid'.
I didn't even know he was imitating Joaquin Phoenix.

Stiller's bit was mildly amusing, however it felt more like something that belongs at the MTV movie awards not the Oscars.

Agreed. It was disappointing that they would detract from the Cinematography award by injecting some pathetic humor into what is possibly a once-in-a-lifetime event for some of the nominees. There's a time and a place for that kind of humor and the Academy Awards isn't it.
Just my $.02

Re: 81st annual Academy Awards 2/22

Oh please, Joaquin Phoenix needs to rejoin the real world and hats off to the Academy for poking fun at him, just as he pokes fun at everyone else every time he goes on another "interview".

Re: 81st annual Academy Awards 2/22

I thought it was funny too.

The one good thing about this year's ceremony was that it didn't feel like it was going way off track. There was no random person puppet performance or anything silly like that. Thank goodness.

5 people to give out one award though? ... that concept needs to go away and die.

I don't give a crap about Joaquin Phoenix and the beef he has with anyone, or the beef they have with him. Truly, I couldn't care less.

What I have a problem with is the distraction to the Cinematography award because of Ben Stillers "comedic" act. I thought it was in poor taste (not to mention disrespectful) to do something like that during the actual award ceremony.
