New York Times article on Walt Disney Family Museum at the Presidio.

A buddy of mine emailed me a link to an article on the Walt Disney Family Museum that appeared in yesterday's New York Times.

I'm thinking... "MiceChat Road Trip!!"

Quote:
LOS ANGELES — The heirs of Walt Disney, angered by negative portrayals of him over the years, are preparing to unveil their response: a $112 million museum focused on his happy home life and artistic achievements...
Check out the whole article at the link above. It's a great read.

I've been following the progress of the project the past few years on their website, which has just gone down to be re-opened soon at:

Walt Disney Family Museum

Interesting...also interesting that Industrial Light & Magic, and Lucas Arts have their headquarters at the Presidio.
The location sort of thumbs its nose at the Disney company, in several ways.

Am already fascinated with the Presidio. The museum will be another great reason to enjoy the place. Best of all, it's relatively close to where I live.

San Francisco in October sounds like a great plan.

Having raised a daughter as loyal as Diane is further evidence on what a great guy Walt Disney was.

I can't wait to go to this museum!
I would like to see the Disney corp. turn a large % of their archives over to a library at this museum, the way the Warner Brothers archives are cared for (and made accessible to scholars) by the library at USC's film school.

WARNING: ANTI-FAMILY GUY RANT: Some of my high school students witnessed a protrayal of Walt Disney on Family Guy that was only a few seconds long, but was totally negative. Jesus was also presented as "over-rated" in the same stupid episode, so at least Walt was in good company. I detest the way that show frequently takes a famous person (like Bing Cosby) and reduces him or her to one negative trait. I was gratified to see the South Park episode where they criticized Family Guy, as were the writers/producers of The Simpsons who reportedly sent the South Park producers a basket of fruit after the episode aired.
