Re: Monorail Crash Kills Driver Stuns Passengers At Disney World

If it is true that Monorail Central cleared the train to go in reverse, the company just opened itself up big and wide to a lawsuit. The cast member's family only needs to argue that the company didn't take reasonable measures to ensure that a monorail backing into another couldn't happen. Likewise is the fact that if the monorail was going in reverse that there was no operator on the other end as a safety precaution. Then there's the fact that there aren't cameras on either nose.

Re: Monorail Crash Kills Driver Stuns Passengers At Disney World

Thoughts and prayers to both families involved, hopefully the cause will be found soon so this can never happen again.

The video from the scene shows the true sadness of the situation. The families don't need to see it.

Very sad news today. Prayers go out to the family.

It will be very interesting how this folds out.

Re: Monorail Crash Kills Driver Stuns Passengers At Disney World

How awful. My heart goes out to the family of the driver. People just aren't supposed to die at 21.

It sounds awful to say - one death is too many - but I am thankful no guests were hurt. I know that accidents like this can force new safety measures - so hopefully, another incident like this can now never happen. It's wrong that weaknesses in a system have to be found out through human loss, though.

Some of the passengers were likely unaware that the monorails have human pilots. A shocking accident. Hope the cause doesn't remain shrouded in mystery long.

Wow, such a tragic event and unfortunate story. My thoughts go out to the family and friends of the monorail driver. Looking at that video though, kudos to the guys who are trying to help and get whoever may be trapped out. It also seems like this event could be due largely to human error, which is very unfortunate. Simply a terrible event for all involved.

Very sad incident! Hope the family of the lost CM are doing ok.

And i hope they create a system that prevents this.

I can't help but be just a little annoyed when I hear people's sigh of relief when they say no guests were harmed (I'm not pointing any fingers here, I just get that impression from the media). Cast members are people, too, and it's just as big a tragedy when a cast member is killed as when a guest is killed.

I'm a cast member, and I personally knew the driver. He was one of my coworkers at a previous location, and was a really nice guy. I will miss him. Rest in peace.

First, I'm sorry for your friend and fellow CM. I don't think anybody is trying to say that a CM isn't a person too. But it could have been a LOT worse than it was. Yes, 1 death is 1 WAY too many and it's sad.

I think that people are just thankful that it wasn't more than 1, because it VERY easily could have been.

Re: Monorail Crash Kills Driver Stuns Passengers At Disney World

This is a terrible tragedy. My prayers go out to all Monorail CMs and especially the friends and family of the deceased.

Watching the video, one thing strikes me. That guest stepping right up to the plate and trying to establish communication with the people in the nose cone of Purple. That guy looked like he was ready to try and rip the door off its track if he had to in order to get in and save the people. Most people in that situation just stand around and watch. And the lone CM also stepped right up. They are to be commended. And as for whose fault the accident was, I'm sure that they are going through their own private hell right now and need out support as well.

God be with all involved.

I think the sigh of relief is that more weren't killed. It is tragic that the pilot perished in the crash, and I can see that this will lead to sweeping policy changes at WDW.

Re: Monorail Crash Kills Driver Stuns Passengers At Disney World

That makes sense, too. I believe I heard a news report saying "Only a cast member was hurt", and the intonation made it kind of sound like it wasn't as bad as if a guest was hurt... But I guess I jumped to conclusions

Don't even worry about it boomer. Your mourning the loss of a friend and fellow CM. Our thoughts are not only with the family of the CM, but to his much bigger CM family. Nobody expects to go to work and not come home. It's gotta be very sad for all of his fellow CM's.
