'Captain Nemo 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' sets sail

Along with work on Disney's 'Secretariat' film Randall Wallace is on the rewrite of the studios' origin picture, "Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". 'Terminator Salvation' director McG is onboard to direct and co-produce as well.

McG+Terminator Salvation= A franchise destroyed.

I wonder what he will do to this..

McG is walking on thin ice, very thin ice. 20K is too precious a movie to be messing around with. I hope he doesn't screw it up as much as terminator. (PLEASE no Will Smith! Get him on board and the movie already sucks!)

McG grew up in Newport Beach and I am guessing is a fan of Disneyland. He should do well with a Disney franchise.

Never trust a director that won't tell you his or her full name.

Hey I vote for maybe Robert Downey Jr to play Nemo. He was the first that came to mind. Either him, or maybe Johnny Depp.

McG sounds like another Michael Bay, which IMO means this movie was destroyed before it started. That he wanted Will Smith for the role of Captain Nemo clearly shows he favors box office over art and story.

An African American Captain Nemo? Please God say it ain't so. Not trying to come off racist here, that's not me. It's that Nemo was of a lighter skin color, to put it in different terms.

Why don't they just call it Wild Wild West 2?!

If Will knows whats good for him, he'll turn it down.

Maybe the Paradise Pier Hotel can build a 20,000 Leagues themed pool, and you could swim around - and look out from inside - the Nautilus?

That would kind of take away from the theme of the hotel.

For a feature film released in 1954 there's not much chance the film would've starred anyone not fitting your description.

From the article:
Quote:
In Verne's lesser-known sequel, "The Mysterious Island," Nemo is revealed as Indian Prince Dakkar, a rajah's son who took part in a failed rebellion and lost his wife and children. It is unclear how close to that back story Disney will stick, but "Nemo's" tone will be decidedly action-adventure.
Box office magnet Will Smith at this time is not signed, they'll probably wait for the script to proceed with an actual direction for casting, etc.

I'm fine with a remodel of that hotel. To a real theme.

I saw the sequel. Without knowing that Nemo would be in it. (It was part of a Summer School semester to make up 9th grade English. It was great!! All we did was watch old movies all summer, and write about em!)

And if I remember correctly the guy who played Nemo in MI was the same one who played him in the Disney film.

They had a great "Indian" Nemo in "League of Distinguished Gentlemen"....Maybe Alexander Sidig "the Dr. from Deep Space Nine" with his english accent could play Nemo. But he's no boxoffice draw. Maybe Ben Kingsley, but he's too old for a young Nemo. Someone like that. Indian and English.
