'POTC 4' finds new Direction to set sail in 2010 - Page 2

There is only so far the Jack Sparrow character can go. In the first and second one he was amazing and practically carried the films. But by the 3rd one he was getting a little long in the golden tooth. This almost sounds like a spinoff since it seems that only Jack Sparrow will be returning for any significant part.

And did anyone else notice that Part 2 and Part 3 were like 4-5 full movies combined into just two films? It's essentially as if we already have like 6 pirate movies already. Johnny Depp is much more versatile and talented than this, let the franchise end on a high note.

I thought so to, but caught POTC 3 on Starz HD over the weekend and I actually REALLY enjoyed it. Not the best movie ever, but it was good.

Honestly, I'm hoping they bring back Capt. Jack, the Crew and of course Barbossa.

I really loved the first one, hated the second and was mildly indifferent to the third. I hope if they do a 4th it will be a prequel so that we can see how Jack screwed over Beckett, what sank the Pearl and exactly why Jack made a deal with Davy Jones. I think those are much more compelling stories than the fountain of youth angle.

As long as I never have to see Keira Knightly's irritating facial behaviors again that would be great. I heard that she had bailed on the series but I hadn't heard that Orlando had. I know he said that he wanted it to be a long time before he'd come back but not that he'd never do it.

No Orlando Bloom = count me out. Unless of course they add a character in his 20's-30's to replace him.. Jack Sparrow alone would get old real fast.

This is part of the problem I have with the sequels, the tone, and movie rules are different than the first film.

In the first film, the rules the characters live by are the same ones as the real world,NO ONE knows that they live in a supernatural world and the Black Pearl is a myth to be mocked by 'moral men' so when the walking dead pirates show up it takes all the leads by surprise. Note Jack Sparrows expression when he is in jail, and one of the pirates outstreached arm turns into a skeleton as he strangles Jack. Jack is genuinely surprised by the revelation of ghosts among us. It's the first time it is revealed to him (and us) what lurks in the moonlight.

By the time the second film comes around, the film rules are different. EVERYONE knows they live in a world governed by fantasy, and Davey Jones, and his crew are always hanging out in plain sight, checking out islands, and making deals with British officers.

A fourth one will only dilute the strength of the first film.

I loved the second one. I am totally in awe over the Davy Jones character.

I'm not quite sure whether I prefer the first or third, but it's a close call.

The second one suffered because of the absence of Barbossa IMO. Depp as Sparrow is a classic character, but I think Rush's Barbossa is not given enough credit for what he brings to the films.

As long as both of them are back, I'll remain optimistic. I do think the first three were superbly directed, but nothing says another director can't do a good job as well.
