Depp + Jolie = 'POTC 4' & 'Lone Ranger' delays...

Should Johnny Depp take the title role in the new film, 'The Tourist' starring alongside Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie it could signal a delay or the death of his continuing his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's next 'POTC' cinematic chapter. Not to mention the previously-announced Jerry Bruckheimer production, 'The Lone Ranger'.

OOOOOh, what a dilemma! I LOVE Johnny and Angelina...so, the thought of them being in a movie together sends chills down my spine. But, if it could cost us seeing him as our beloved Capt........maybe not. I would hope they would only delay the filming...not remove him from the movie.

After Dick Cook was booted out, it's been speculated that Depp would no longer be interested in doing another POTC film. If he is indeed as annoyed with Disney as rumor has it, I wouldn't be surprised to see him ditch both POTC and the Lone Ranger. It's not like he hasn't other offers...or a hefty bank account to fall back on.

I think Depp can still to POTC 4, since The Tourist is scheduled to start filming in Februry 2010 and POTC 4 should start in May. At least I hope that's the case. I really miss the Captain!

Personally, I'm all for more POTC movies, with or without Captain Jack Sparrow. Entertaining though Depp is and the Jack character, there's still more than enough room for other engaging and lovable pirates.

That said, would I still love to see Depp doing POTC 4? I would. I loved all three of the existing movies, and I'm hungry for more.

I'm also intrigued with a revival of The Lone Ranger, as well. The 1981 revival did absolutely nothing but send the saga of the Masked Man back into the shadows, and that's a shame. I must admit that Depp's pretty much a perfect choice for the role.

Depp will be playing Tonto, not the Lone Ranger. Depp is the only actor they've casted so far.
