I thought I had heard Eisner had a successor named in an envelope he addressed to himself many years ago and had kept sealed. This was before Capital Cities.

Did the name in the envelope not want the job or was this a fib?

Stan Gold is my hero. Along with Jimmy Buffett, but that's besides the point. Mr. Gold makes a very good point by singling out the board for their close-mindedness. It's sad, really sad.

I can see my Disney stock moving like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, right to the 'end'. I guess waiting for it to go back to when I bought it at $40 is wishful thinking now.

But let's face it, we all saw this coming. I still think that the board chose 'Iger' because it sounds like 'Eisner'.

Will the Disney Company Change? I doubt It after what I have read.
    Iger is just Eisner's Goon.

You know, it just figures. I've been waiting for this company to start improving again for 10 years. I guess it's just not going to happen. What a bummer. I'd rather keep Eisner in there.

I'm not sure what to make of this news. It isn't like we really know how Iger will act on his own. He has been Eisner's man for a very long time. However, he also has a lot to prove. In order to protect the stock, he'll need to set forth an agenda for growth and show that he is not an extension of Eisner.

We'll know in the morning what the stock market thinks. The other big question is what will happen to Eisner. Will he go right away? Will he get a spot on the board? I'm VERY interested to see what happens.

Agh! I can only hope that he will be somewhat better than Eisner. I guess that's what everyone can really hope for.
They hail from the same camps, pretty much. One must remember that Eisner, for the first several years of his tenure was full of creative ideas and financial willingness. It was after several bad business decisions (read: ABC) that things really started to go downhill. He has had to make up for the financial downfall and the aftermath of September 11, 2001. He handled these situations unfavorably.
Perhaps Iger will do the same thing. For the first several years, he could be full of new ideas. Let's hope the economic atmosphere stays nice, and maybe we'll see a Disney turnaround!
    Any thoughts?

I do think Eisner will throw in the towel, either that or he will be treated as an "Al Gore" demanding a recount....

Iger is the ONLY person available with the experiance to run Disney right now and frankly he has seen Eisners ways so its likely he will not repeat the micromanaging and lying that Eisner was so famous for.

And I am just guessing he will want to revitalize ABC first off.

Al just posted a link to a N.Y. Times story saying that Eisner will step down and NOT ask for a board position. This is very good news. However, he won't step down until September. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/14/bu.../14eisner.html
