Tim Firth has been hired to adapt Ahmet Zappa's kids' book "The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless" for Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Walt Disney Pictures.
Disney optioned the book last year for $1.5 million, months before it was published by Random House.
Pic concerns a young brother and sister who learn their family is part of a long line of monster hunters. Despite their constant squabbling, the pair must band together against the most diabolical creature in the universe.
Bruckheimer will produce. Bruckheimer Films prexies Chad Oman and Mike Stenson will exec produce.
Firth's screenplay credits include "Calendar Girls," another Disney pic, and Miramax's "Kinky Boots."
Bruckheimer is shooting the third installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, due out from Disney next summer.
