Former Beach Boy Brian Wilson picked GardenWalk to debut the first of 10 restaurants bearing his name.

And Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., which Saturday will be the first business to open at GardenWalk, has wanted to be in Anaheim for about seven years.

A few other restaurants will trickle in this year and early next year, but May 17, 2008, is the grand opening for GardenWalk, a three-level lushly landscaped outdoor mall. With 440,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment, GardenWalk is roughly half the size of The District at Tustin Legacy, which opened this spring, but larger than Downtown Disney.

Lot's of Competition for Downtown Disney. Disney should have scored some of these restaurants for Downtown Disney in the first place. I would rather eat at PF Changs than Catal or Naples.

Seriously! I can't stand the food at DTDisney. I am trying to think "which has the worst food?" And I don't like HOB and the giant wait for a drink (and not even a hard drink. Jack and Coke), don't like Tortilla Joes or whatever it's called now because the salsa isn't good; Ralph Brennan's the waiter cursed profusely while making the bananas foster for us and so many times I have gone there only to have my order messed up; UVA bar was bad because I finished my Jack and Coke, ordered another one had it 20 minutes later so I didn't want it anymore; Catal charges an insane amount for their drinks (like sodas and such); ESPN zone the wait is insane and they don't have chairs for you to wait; and Naples/Napelini is just yucky!

Good for the Anaheim Mall for getting real restaurants.
