'The Princess and the Frog'

Quote:
Walt Disney Pictures has revealed this first photo of princess Tiana in the studio's traditionally-animated The Princess and the Frog, coming to theaters in 2009. The movie is written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and features the music of Randy Newman.

A musical set in the legendary birthplace of jazz -- New Orleans -- "The Princess and the Frog" will introduce the newest Disney princess, Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose), a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter. From the heart of Louisiana's mystical bayous and the banks of the mighty Mississippi comes an unforgettable tale of love, enchantment and discovery with a soulful singing crocodile, voodoo spells and Cajun charm at every turn.

Re: 'The Princess and the Frog'

PS- I wonder if we'll see the New Orleans Square area or Mark Twain retrofitted at all to reflect things/characters from this movie? Even if it is not received well by critics, I have to imagine there will be a huge marketing blitz behind this property. Especially since it is supposed to launch a whole new DIsney "princess".

As always there will be avenues pursued to reflect the Disney message, the parks will play a part in promoting the film. It would be very nice to see a grand premiere in New Orleans not unlike 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' had too.

I will see this when it comes out. I like Randy Newman, and I liked his work on Toy Story and A Bug's Life. I liked the songs he sang on those, and I look forward to seeing what he has in store for us.

Re: 'The Princess and the Frog'

That sounds like a great movie. Even more, I will have another reason to sail down the Mississippi someday. Louisiana has a unique culture, New Orleans has a mystique to it. I will watch this film mostly because of the setting.

Re: 'The Princess and the Frog'

I can see New Orleans Square in Disneyland becoming populated with the characters from this movie. I'm looking forward to the movie.

She looks adorable!

Is anyone else particularly excited about this movie because the voice actors are cast for their talent-- not necessarily fame?

Re: 'The Princess and the Frog'

Totally excited about this movie. I see endless promotions ahead. I've enjoyed Randy Newman's work in the Pixar Films but I'm not so sure I want to hear it in a princess movie. I was super excited when I read the cast list and realized that there were actual ::gasp:: professional singers in this.

Re: 'The Princess and the Frog'

I will be excited to see this one.

New Orleans Square would be a perfect place to have the characters.

Yup. Anika Noni Rose was wonderful in "Caroline or Change" on Broadway and in "Dreamgirls" on film.

Re: 'The Princess and the Frog'

I'm optimistic! I hope this will be more of a return to the classic Disney-style film with great songs included in the storyline.
