Disney Mobile to Launch in Japan

Disney unveiled its first mobile phones in Japan on Tuesday claiming they are extremely confident after learning lessons from the US market.

Walt Disney Japan, the local unit of Walt Disney Co., said it will begin the new mobile phone service, "Disney Mobile," on March 1 along with Softbank Corp. This goes along with their initial announcement in November.

The service is being marketed toward young women in their 20s and 30s and will offer three types of mobiles made by Japan's Sharp, with the outer pattern being the silhouette patterns of Mickey Mouse.

The phones will also feature a special online button that will allow subscribers to visit Disney websites and Disney's iconic characters will be available to standby on screens and to decorate e-mails free of charge.
