BURBANK, April 1, 2008 . . . In an unprecedented, far-reaching cross-platform rollout, the Disney-ABC Television Group today announced that Disney's "Camp Rock," a celebratory, song and dance-filled Disney Channel Original Movie for kids and families, will premiere on Disney Channel, the ABC Television Network (as part of the "Wonderful World of Disney" franchise), ABC Family, Radio Disney and Disney.com in Disney XD, FRIDAY, JUNE 20 through Monday, June 23 in the U.S. It will also premiere on Family Channel Canada and on Quebec's VRAK.TV (dubbed in French) on Friday, June 20 and on Disney Channels around the world beginning in August.

The "Camp Rock" soundtrack will release Tuesday, June 17 from Walt Disney Records and the DVD, with exclusive bonus features, will release around the world beginning Tuesday, August 19 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

In making the announcement, Anne Sweeney, co-chair, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney-ABC Television Group said: "Our ability to harness the strength of the entire Television Group and work with other lines of business to help launch a potential new franchise for the Company is what differentiates us among our peers. This will be evident to everyone beginning Friday, June 20, when the world will be treated to an unprecedented rollout of song and dance with our new Disney Channel Original Movie, 'Camp Rock.'"

Starring Platinum-certified Hollywood Records recording artists and Top 40 and Radio Disney hit-makers Jonas Brothers (Joe, Kevin and Nick) and singer/songwriter/actress Demi Lovato (of Disney Channel's "As the Bell Rings"), "Camp Rock" is the story of a talented yet unsure teen who yearns to share her songs with the world, and of a tempestuous young superstar who's lost his passion for music and is sent packing by his band mates. Together, at a camp for aspiring young music artists, they learn to believe in themselves and to value the freedom to be who they really want to be.

Also starring are Alyson Stoner ("Cheaper by the Dozen"), Meaghan Jette Martin, Anna Maria Perez de Taglé (of Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana"), Jasmine Richards ("Naturally Sadie"), Maria Canals-Barrera (of Disney Channel's "Wizard of Waverly Place"), Daniel Fathers, Roshon Fegan, Jordan Francis and screenwriter/actress Julie Brown.

Disney will release the first music video from "Camp Rock" across multiple Disney/ABC networks and online platforms this Saturday. It will coincide with Disney's launch of the official "Camp Rock" website.

The premiere of the anthemic "We Rock," the first music video from the highly anticipated Disney Channel Original Movie, "Camp Rock," will be leveraged across Disney's multiple media platforms – the ABC Television Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, Disney.com, ESPN Networks, Radio Disney, SOAPnet and Toon Disney -- and in Disney Parks and Resorts and aboard the Disney Cruise Line, SATURDAY, APRIL 19, at various times throughout the day.

Disney, Screenvision Strike Deal Promote Camp Rock

The Disney Channel is turning to the big screen to advertise its new upcoming movie Camp Rock, on the small screen. Through a deal with Screenvision, one of two cinema ad rep firms, a 30-second spot for Camp Rock began airing May 23 and will run through June 19 before all G and PG rated films such as Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and Kung Fu Panda. Camp Rock airs June 20.

It's the first time the cable network has turned to cinema advertising to promote its programming and is the latest example of TV networks advertising in theatres, including MTV, ABC, HBO and Showtime.

"Camp Rock is a huge priority for the network and in order to maximize the reach of the targeted kids and tween audience during the summer timeframe, we will reach them in one of the main places they will be - at the movies," said Richard Loomis, senior vp of marketing and creative for Disney Channel.

Disney's spot runs in Screenvision's Premium Pod position, which airs right before movie previews.

"Through our Premium Pod we're able to offer marketers such as Disney Channel, prime advertising real estate, with the maximum exposure possible in cinema in terms of available audience for viewing," said Michael Chico, executive vp of sales and marketing for Screenvision.

Another Walt Disney Co. division, The Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, has a content and advertising deal with National CineMedia to provide pre-feature entertainment content and advertising for NCM's FirstLook pre-feature

Disney Channel Fits Colleyville's Demi Lovato For A Glass Slipper

She's now lined up to be the next Hannah Montana.

Pardon, say what? You haven't heard of Demi Lovato? Then you're clearly not in your tweens, not part of that valuable demographic ages 8 to 14—give or take a few years on each side—willing to part with an estimated $30 million in babysitting money and $140 million of your folks' hard-earned. And you're not watching the Disney Channel, clearly.

You're not listening to the Jonas Brothers, Joe, Nick and Kevin, the holy trinity of Tweener Rock. You're not casting a spell with The Wizards of Waverly Place, starring one of the DeLuise boys as the proud papa of a magical clan. You're not hero-worshipping brothers Zack & Cody, the Eloise and Eloise of prime-time kid's TV running amok in the fancy hotel in which they happen to live. You're not waiting for As the Bell Rings, the frothy penalty kill Disney Channel runs between shows. But, surely you know Hannah Montana? Demi Lovato's like that. Only not as famous. Yet.

Maybe, come June 21, Demi Lovato will be fitted with her own crown as she becomes newest princess in Disney's Magic Kingdom. Maybe not. Probably so.

Because the day before, Demi will be the star of Disney Channel's Camp Rock, as anxiously awaited by the J-14 and Teen and Popstar! and Tiger Beat set as the latest adventures of an old man and his musty fedora are anticipated by their parents. Disney's counting on it to be the next franchise, another High School Musical, whose 2007 sequel was only the highest-rated offering in the history of cable television.

Disney's been promoting Camp Rock for months, flooding the mouseketeers of America with an endless parade of promos for the story of a middle-class girl who has a JoBro-mance with hunky Joe Jonas at sleep-away camp. There, they snap bubblegum pop and dance the late afternoons away and fall madly, desperately in like—because, after all, Demi's 15 and Joe's 18 and that's still illegal in Disneyland.

"Here's the trick for us and for me, particularly," says Michael Healey, senior vice president of original movies for the Disney Channel. "With this cast and with the great buzz on the Internet and every place else about Camp Rock, it'll certainly open. I don't know how big it'll open, but it'll do extremely well. The real test for us is, will it repeat? Will the kids really fall in love with it and come back and see it again? Because that's sort of the great magic of our best movies: Kids don't just like them, they love them, and they want to see them again and again. And that's the true test: Will they last? Let's hope that Camp Rock is like that. We'll know in a few months."

But, right, who is Demi anyway? Till a couple of years ago she was known, if at all, for having ridden the purple dinosaur when she was 8. After Barney & Friends there were occasional acting gigs, like a one-off appearance on the locally filmed Fox show Prison Break, but nothing so memorable as to leap off a novice's résumé. But now, Demi is about to be everywhere, if all goes according to plan.

On May 16, she appeared in the first episode of Living the Dream, the Disney Channel's reality series featuring, who else, the Jonas Brothers. Only last week, she made her recording debut on Disney Mania, Volume 6, on which she sings "That's How You Know" from, of course, the Disney film Enchanted. At the beginning of June, Demi will then go on a small concert tour previewing the product. There will be stories in People and USA Weekend and, of course, a newsstand's worth of teen magazines.
Then, June 20, Camp debuts.

"On June 20," says Eddie DeLaGarza, whom Demi calls Dad, "everything changes."

At the beginning of July, Demi hits the road with the Jonas Brothers; she and Joe will be America's newest sweethearts, dueting on stage after stage. Then, in the fall, comes the album containing some dozen songs the Jonas boys and others have written for the girl who always wanted to sing.

Then either late this year or next, there will be another movie, Princess Protection Program, in which Demi only too appropriately plays Disney's newest princess. All that's missing is the glass slipper—and you can get those at Candie's.

'Camp' ratings rock for Disney

Jonas Bros.' telepic averages 8.9 mil viewers

Disney Channel was rocking on Friday night with a strong turnout for its latest made-for musical, "Camp Rock," starring red-hot teen rockers the Jonas Brothers.

"Camp Rock" averaged 8.9 million viewers from 8-10 p.m. That made "Camp Rock" Disney Channel"s second highest-rated original telepic ever behind last year's "High School Musical 2." It also made the basic cabler the most-watched network in its time period, against mostly repeat competish on the broadcast nets.

Viewership of "Camp Rock" peaked in its final half-hour at nearly 10 million. Pic brought in 3.4 million viewers in the 9-14 tween demo and 3.5 million in the kid 6-11 demo, which indicates that there was a lot of family viewing of the telepic. During the past few weeks, Disney Channel gave a blizzard of promotion to the pic and the Jonas Brothers, who have their own Disney Channel series set to bow next year.

However, "Camp Rock" did rank as the network's most-watched nonsequel movie ever, outperforming the original "HSM," which debuted in January 2006 to 7.7 million viewers, and other original movies like "Jump In!" which averaged 8.2 million in January 2007.

In the kid demos, "Camp Rock" drew 3.5 million kids 6-11 and 3.4 million tweens 9-14, which Disney said was higher than "American Idol's" most recent season premiere and finale on Fox.

The movie made Disney Channel TV's most-watched network from 8-10 p.m. Friday in total viewers, topping runner-up CBS by more than 3 million viewers, as well as in the kid demos.
"Camp Rock" peaked in its final half-hour with 9.8 million viewers, growing by 1.9 million from beginning to end.

On Saturday, "Camp Rock" averaged 3.6 million total viewers when it aired as part of ABC's "Wonderful World of Disney" franchise from 8-10:30 p.m. The movie peaked in its final half-hour with 4.1 million viewers, boosting ABC to second place in the time period among total viewers (behind CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" with 5.2 million) and tied with CBS for first in adults 18-49 (1.1 rating/4 share).

"Camp Rock" aired again Sunday on ABC Family and will premiere on Disney.com Monday

I never thought I'd say this, but the songs just weren't "catchy" to me like High School Musical.

Also, in the HSM movies, even though I know they are lip-synching when they are actually acting, I never got the impression they were lip-synching and I know it was actually their voices.

In this, it's OBVIOUS they are lip-synching and I couldn't figure out if the girls voice was actually her voice or not. It sounded like Avril Lavigne.

^^ I agree. It was nowhere near as much fun as either of the HSM films. The characters weren't very compelling, the songs weren't catchy or memorable at all (except for the finale "We Rock"). And it all felt a little TOO contrived, like it was just plainly obvious that they were trying to assemble a new tween hit that checked all the boxes of the HSM playbook.

Camp Rock is an absolutely horrible film, even for a television movie.

The production value is incredibly poor. I see absolutely no reason for the use of green screens when a set or location would have been easy to come into. My biggest peeves were the school hallway and the campfire.

The lip synching was, overall, poorly done.

When guitars were being synched, at times you could hear the strings being hit without power.

To say the characters were one dimensional may be reaching. The plot was incredibly unoriginal and predictable.

The only upside to this film was the Johnas Brothers, whose music video experience made them the least painful to watch synch. The whole thing just felt like it was created at a meeting that set the agenda as finding a way to utilize the Johns Brothers and try and launch Demi Lovato (Anybody else think Disney is on the hunt for the next Miley Cyrus?).

That's exactly what it was. Disney probably couldn't convince the Jonas Bros. to start their own series, so they put together a movie WAY too quick. I didn't care for the female lead AT ALL. She doesn't have that "Spunk" that Miley or Selena Gomez have.
