Well, The Princess and the Frog will be hand drawn, and that comes up next year. It's actually only a two year gap between Rapunzel and King of the Elves anyway.

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

I'm just holding my deep secret fear that they will make a sequel to Sleeping Beauty (my fav) since it's escaped almost entirely unscathed in this sequel madness thus far. I've read all the small chapter books and the first novel of the new Fairies stories and I must say I really enjoyed them. I make a hobby of reading re-written fairy tales. I've thought for a while that Disney should hire Robin Mckinley, Shannon Hale or Diana Wynne Jones to do an adaptation for an animated movie. However, after seeing the butcher job they did on Ella Enchanted I'm not sure I can trust them to adapt even the most excellent source material from writers like that.

Ella Enchanted was the Weinstein under Miramax.

And it was still bloody awful. Gail Carson Levine wrote the best version of Cinderella I've ever read and they turned it into utter crap. Now she's written these fairy books and I'm closing my eyes and holding my breath hoping they aren't sacrificed as well.

Technically they did. It just wasn't a whole movie. Just watching the trailers and hearing the god-awful song sent shivers down my spine.

3-d is cool and all, but I hate seeing an attempted demise of film projection being pushed forward by what will probably surmount to a simple fad and the MPAAs new anti-piracy attempt (you can't CAM the 3-D experience ^_^). Even Regal and AMC's fallen to it.

.
Bah, that wasn't a movie, it was temporary insanity. I had to listen to that craptacular song every 40 mins for months at work and after I got over my laughter at them stealing the English royal anthem I planned several elaborate assassination attempts for the composer.

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

Since Bob Iger has already halted production on any animated sequels to classic films, I don't think you have any worries about a "sequel" to Sleeping Beauty, at least while he is in charge. They are finishing the ones started when he told them to stop, and after that it's bye bye to cheap sequels (and even expensive ones).

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

So is Disney Toon different than Walt Disney Animation?
Disney Toon is the studio that put out all the crappy movies, like
The Wild (that movie that was biting off of Madagascar), Return to Atlantis, Cinderella 3, and all the other poorly animated films they put out that go directly to video? It's funny, Disney used to be *ALL* about quality; but now it is just about quantity!

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

Walt Disney Feature Animation (which is now technically "Walt Disney Animation Studios") is completely different than DisneyToon Studios.

Walt Disney Animation Studios creates the feature films that are released to theatres. The long line that all started with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs...

DisneyToon Studios created the direct to video sequels, for the most part, though I believe television animation did some work with that way back in the beginning.
DisneyToon no longer creates sequels as John Lasseter shut that down. The only films they are making are the Tinker Bell series. Supposedly Lasseter tried to get it all shut down, but came to a compromise in that there would be no more sequels and the only films they will do will be those that are connected with a Disney consumer product line such as Princesses or Fairies...right now thats primarily Disney Fairies with the Tinker Bell films.

Films like "The Wild" are NOT WDAS nor DisneyToons. They were created by outside animation studios which had a distribution deal with Disney (much like Pixar...and I believe these films were done with Disney as they were looking to see if they could replicate the success they had with Pixar with another studio, as that was the time that Disney was severing ties with Pixar - of course, we all know how that turned out )

WDAS and DisneyToon are now all under the oversight and direction of John Lasseter and company.
WDAS is now back on track and moving forward with some great films.
So as you can see, the name of the game is now "Quality" and not "Quantity".

I really dont want to see Cars 2.

In fact, I wish Pixar would stick to making original franchises with every film.

Hmm, let's see.

If it's a "franchise," then that means there's more than just one film. In fact, there's a series of films.

If it's just a single film, it's not a film franchise.
