Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

Is this from an SNL skit?

Here's the real list of films:

-Wall-E
-Bolt
-Up
-The Princess and the Frog
-Toy Story 3
-Rapunzel
-Newt
-The Bear and the Bow
-Cars 2
-King of the Elves

Oh and btw, I believe ALL of Disney animation has been wrapped up into one tight little bow called WALT DISNEY ANIMATION STUDIOS now. There is no separation of Feature Animation or Toon Studios any longer.

Sigh. I don't really like the idea of two PIXAR films in 2011. That one a year max just makes them seem more special to me.

This is a very promising list of films. I hope King of the Elves is 2D traditional animation. I'm also surprised there is no mention of Pixar's Princess of Mars adaption but I guess thats live action so it doesn't count.

With John Lasseter pulling the strings that are delaying "Tinker Bell's" DVD release by almost two years to address quality issues, I'm willing to give the whole series its due until it proves otherwise.

From Disney's corporate website:

Quote:
The Walt Disney Studios distributes motion pictures under Walt Disney Pictures - which includes Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios and DisneyToon Studios
Disney's press releases for "Tinker Bell" also state it's produced by DisneyToon Studios.

no, no, no...they are all still separate.

Walt Disney Feature Animation was simply RENAMED to Walt Disney Animation Studios.

nothing more.

I know our daughter is looking forward to the Tink thing. And with the Fairies online coming, it will probably help that too.

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

King of the Elves and The Bear and the Bow sound very interesting. I am glad that PIXAR is not getting into a sequel trap after Toy Story 3. Cars 2 should be called: Cars 2: The Search for More Money.

All of these animated theatrical releases after Wall-E (except for The Princess and the Frog) will be in Disney Digital 3D. I don't think story driven films like those that come out of PIXAR need a gimik like 3D. 3D could be fun with B-Grade horror films, but does anyone really think Toy Story will be any better because it is in 3D?

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

Direct-to-video, or direct-to-DVD, releases should not be called "films." "Films" are projected from a strip of images, called, "film," onto a large screen.

Moving picture, or "movie" might be more appropriate.

Thank you.

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

I've seen the Disney Digital 3-D several times and it is definitely not a gimmick. It's quite incredible, and very easy on the eyes.

I'm wondering if King of the Elves is traditional or computer animation.

Re: Disney To Release 14 New Animated Films Through 2012

The dedication to 3D is hardly a gimmick. After reading a report from someone who actually attended the event, 3D seems to be a genuine interest of Lasseter's.

Quote:
UP comes out May 29th, 2009 and will be Pixar’s first 3-D movie. Lasseter said that all Pixar and Disney Animated movies from BOLT onwards will be made to release in Disney digital 3-D. Lasseter loves 3-D. He says even all of his wedding pictures were taken in 3-D he loves it so much.

I am guessing John is taking advantage of the Disney*Pixar partnership and investing the funds into something that he has always felt could improve the viewing experience.
